As a result of this lesson, students will be able to:

Students will recognize prayer is a special time to communicate to God by contributing making a mat, for

Students will recognize at least 4 forms of communication including prayer, by circling the pictures.

5min Prior to Lesson teacher would ask all parents to bring in a picture of their child when Align these

1. Get the students in 6 groups for group news. Students will have their baby picture to where they
show their group. Student’s will tell the others about the age they were and what they will be
did as babies. introduced.
- Religious Capability: Children are developing a sense of community. Talk
about their own lives allows the children to see differences and similarities of
other people in the class and embrace those differences and similarities.
2. After all the children have spoken in their group the teacher will draw the class back
to the front.
3. Ask them to put all pictures of themselves in a baby box. Pose wonder questions
while sticking the pictures up on a display board.
4. Wonder Questions:
Point to a student’s picture as each question is asked:
I wonder how you asked for food when you were a baby?
I wonder how your mum new you were happy?
I wonder why God made babies unable to talk?
I wonder why babies cry?
5. Students will get the opportunity to answer any questions. Once the discussion has
reached a dip, the teacher will ask the students if they know what communication
means.
6. Students will get the opportunity to answer each question if they wish.
The main part of the lesson will focus on developing the students’ knowledge in how we
communicate to each other and God and developing a space in the classroom for prayer.
1. Three stations will be set-up for the students. The teacher will explain each activity,
and split the class into four groups.
2. Station 1 and 2 will switch after 10minutes. After 20minutes the children at station 1
and 2will move to station 3 outside with the teachers, and the children in station 3 will
be split in half. Half going to station 1 and the other station 2.
3. The teacher will explain the activities:
Today, we are going to look at all the ways we communicate to each other and God.
We are also going to create a special Prayer Mat that we will use when we talk to
God as a class.

Station 1: With teachers Assistant 1
Coloring:
1. The students will be given a worksheet where they will need to color all the pictures
that display objects or people communicating.
3. Key Questions:
What is Jesus doing? —praying
What could a tv tell us?
I wonder why Jesus is praying
I wonder why people are talking with each other?
I wonder what messages a tv, book, radio etc can tell us?
Learning difficulty:
Teacher will explain each picture. And use prompts and actions to allow the child to
understand what the picture means.
The teachers assistant may ask:
What does this look like?
This looks like someone talking on the telephone. Is he talking to someone?
Does that mean he is communicating?
10min This look like someone praying? Who are they praying to? Does that mean
he is talking to someone?
Extending:
The students who are able to allocate different forms of communication easily, will then be
extended by the teachers assistant.
The teacher assistant will ask the students to draw all the ways Jesus communicates in the
stories they have heard so far. Talking, preaching, praying etc.

3. The students will then take a picture either of each other (in pairs) or through the
reverse side of the camera (selfie) of the body language they are showing.
4. The students can then insert their photos in Pic -Collage app on the iPads. The
students can decorate, change background etc. on the pic-collage. The teachers’
assistance will demonstrate the use of the pic-collage app, step-by-step with the
students.
5. When the students are decorating their pic-collage the teacher will ask Wondering
Questions:
I wonder why we have feelings?
20min Why did God make us to show our feelings through our bodies?
Extending: The students who need extending, will be asked by the teachers assistant to
write or type the emotion they are showing in each picture. The teacher will help with spelling
by using a small whiteboard to write down each word the child is trying to say. This will
extend the students word knowledge and iPad skills.
Learning difficulty:
The teachers assistant will be prompting this student more. By modelling and explaining
expressions.
1. The teacher will bring out a large piece of material (3m by 2m) and fold it in 4
The teacher will explain to the students that this will be their prayer mat for class
pray so we can communicate to God as a whole class.
This is going to be our special mat which we will get out when we pray to God as a class.
This class needs our special touch, so we are going to decorate the mat today with
everyone’s names, hand prints and special pictures.
2. One group will decorate one section of the mat. By the end of the lesson the Mat
should be decorated fully.
3. The Area will have:
Painting aprons
Paint split into smaller container – for easy child use.
Paint brushes
Outdoor sink
5. The teacher will ask the students wonder Questions to direct their pictures and
thoughts:
Extending: The teacher will ask the students who have started writing words, to try and write
kind words such as love, kindness, Jesus, God, prayer, etc.
The teacher will have a small white board to help students with their spelling.
Learning difficult:
The teacher will explain one activity at a time. The teacher will show palm cards to main
instructions that the child is used to. For example when it is time to wash hands the teacher
will hold up the card which has the picture of washing hands, while giving the instruction.
1. The students will come back to the mat after packing away their station.
2. The teacher will get the students in a circle and place the mat that was decorated in
the lesson in the middle of the circle (Not sitting on it as it will still have wet paint)
3. Teach children that when the prayer mat is placed on the floor it is time to sit around
it in silence, because the special time for prayer is about to begin.
4. The teacher will come down at the same level as the students.
5. The teacher will ask the students:
what are ways that we communicate to one another?
How do we communicate to God?

God, please bless my school. Thank You for all of the teachers that work so hard to help us
learn. Thank You for recess and lunchtime, when we get to play with our friends. Thank You
for providing a place where we can learn more about the world You created for us to live in,
and how it works. Please keep my school safe. Protect all of the grown-ups and kids that
come to school every day. Protect us from harm and help us to be kind to each other. In

Transition: (What needs to happen prior to the next lesson?)
The teacher will ask all the student to get their hat and line up at the door ready for morning
play.
Assessment: (Were the lesson objectives met? How will they be assessed?)
The teacher will use a checklist and antidotal notes to record answers of wondering
Questions. The teacher will take pictures through the lesson of each child participating in
making the pray mat. The teachers’ assistance will also use this method of assessment at
their stations. The teacher and teachers’ assistant will combine the assessments together at
the end of the lesson.
