The blended service, is a particular worship service in which is easily to observe a

syncretism of the “conservative” with the “contemporary.” This service program/structure blends

or mixture a traditional/conservative style of service with a contemporary/modern style. This

particular type of worship is the respond of the church of different needs in the community, and

involve different generations in worship. Specifically talking about the

The theme of the sermon/preach is about forgiveness. Also, the songs presented for this

service are related to the main theme of forgiveness. Before the service start the band plays

some music to get the attention of the believers. After the band pays the opening song, the choir

will begin with the song Amazing Grace. After this song, then all the congregation starts to

worship together and continue through all the programmed songs.

Right after the congregation finish the last song, one of the elders pray for the service and

give the formal greetings to the congregation. The elder also, invites the Christians to greets one

another and give them the opportunity to create a more familiar atmosphere.

Then a Christian youth come to the pulpit and read the Scriptures. The Scripture reading

was Colossians 3:13, this gives the congregation a clear understanding of the theme. The

reading is not including the congregation; it was read by the youth alone. The congregation had

been lead to stand up for the songs, then sit down for the prayer time, and stand up for the

scripture reading again.

When the scripture reading is finished then the worship leader takes control of the service

again and lead the congregation to another time of worship . the second part of the worship use

softer songs to guide the congregation to meditate and prepare them for the sermon. In this

second part we can see also the use of more traditional songs and a special performance of the

chorus. This is used to attract the elder people of the congregation too.

After the last song the pastor walked to the pulpit to continue leading the congregation in

the exposition and teaching of the word. After the preaching the congregation the pianist plays a

hymn for the invitation. During the invitation were played two different choices of songs. The

first song was Nothing But the Blood, and the second song was Change My Heart, Oh God. The

reason for choosing two songs was probably to attract older individuals who may have grown up
with hymns, and the second song was probably to attract the younger generation that like more

contemporary music and radio tendency.

The invitation part will slow down the service and to give to the congregation enough

time to focus in worshipping God and meditate in the preaching and the work of God in their

lives. Once the invitation is done, and elder come to the pulpit to lead the congregation to and

offering. After ask the congregations of give themselves to a commitment to God, they are then

asked to give of their talents and blessings received to God. During this time some instrumental

music is played to give some armory to the offering time.

After the offering the pastor come up to the pulpit again to do the announcements of the

events that the church has for the following months and finish the service giving his benediction

to the congregation with a closing prayer time and immediately dismiss them from the service.
