Left:
Biomedical Engineering (BME) applies engineering science to problems in biology and
medicine — including the design of medical instruments, artificial organs and tissues, and
nanoparticles for drug delivery.
STUDY AREAS
Biomechanics of blood flow, cells and hard and soft tissues
Molecular, cellular and biosurface engineering, including tissue engineering and drug
delivery
Electrobiology of the heart and nervous system
Medical imaging systems and biomedical optics
Medical informatics
Center:
The advancement of technology has noticeably impacted the economy not only in the Saint
Louis area but throughout the world. This has created a strong need for individuals highly trained
in math and science. Engineers fit the bill perfectly, and an prodigious engineer degree program
is what MBU will offer.
The program will include concentrations in electrical and biomedical (bio-electrical) engineering
and will be offered on MBU’s main campus. The degree is designed to be completed in four
years. MBU’s engineering program will be distinguished by a strong, hands-on component that
will move students quickly from theory to designing and creating; with high levels of
engagement and an integration of faith with learning.
Right:
Electrical and computer engineers (ECE) encompass the largest engineering work force in the
United States. These engineers design, develop, test and supervise the manufacture of electrical
and electronic devices and systems — such as cell phones, computer networks, medical devices
and robots.
STUDY AREAS
Computer engineering and digital systems
Signal processing and communications
Solid-state devices and integrated circuits
Control systems and robotics
Electromagnetic fields
Photonics
“As engineers, we were going to be in a position to change the world – not just study it.”
—Henry Petroski, American engineer and author specializing in failure analysis
