Introduction: The North is defined by Waterdhavians as that area between the Anauroch desert
and the Sword Coast, and to the north of Waterdeep, the City of Splendors. All the locations
within have appeared in a published Forgotten Realms product, with a mere couple of
exceptions, in which case the location was defined by a prominent Realms author, designer, or
well respected fan – in which case that will be noted within these pages.

This guide is an accompaniment to Terrlen’s map of the North, and is not designed to be
comprehensive, but rather to to pique interest in the area, with the hope that readers will seek
out the other sources quoted within to learn more.

This guide, together with the map, should make a perfect accompaniment to people playing
through “Storm King’s Thunder”, as well as any other campaigns that venture into the North –
also known as the Savage Frontier.

Black Road
This road, the only one of its kind to cross the
