INTRODUCTION

On-the-Job Training is a part of a college curriculum that requires the students


to undergo such training with specific number of hours. On-the-Job Training aims to
train and orient students about the work and their future career. Usually a
professional trainer or experienced employee serves as the course instructor using
hands-on training often supported by formal classroom training.

On-the-Job training is the most effective method to develop the competence


and skills of students. The process exposes the students to different fields and
environment. Moreover, it allows the students to become familiar and made known
to the actual operation of business and the state-of-the art of the facilities, equipment
and technology used. OJT will generally be the primary method used for
broadening employee skills and increasing productivity.

Employers can use this internship strategy as a method in recruiting new


employees. OJT Program places participants in occupations that will enhance their
prospects for long-term employment. Since the supervisor or trainer can follow the
trainee’s progress, he can gauge based on performance, behaviour and attitude if
the trainee will make a good recruit after the completion of the internship.

Accommodating on-the-job trainees can be truly beneficial not only to the

Recent rules by the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) & the Securities &
Exchange Commission (SEC), have increased emphasis on auditor independence.
While existing rules preclude regulated companies from using the same CPA firm
for external and internal audits, similar provisions could be extended to other
entities as well. BSP Circular 488 provides for rules on internal audit outsourcing.

SUPPORT STAFFS/TRAINEES are responsible for routine tasks that employees are
too busy to handle. They perform a variety of duties and must be prepared to handle
many tasks at once.

CONCLUSIONS

While undergoing the On-the-Job Training, I had a lot of things going on


through my mind. One of these things is “How would I be able to learn from this
training?” and other things like “What are the benefits that I would gain from this
training?”

Having my training in Ismael Accounting and Auditing Firm is a great


experience for me. I have learned to interact and communicate with different types
of people dealing with different types of businesses. I learned to do my best with
every task assigned to me. I had to make sure that the firm’s record of its inventories
should match its physical count, I had to be very careful in bookkeeping to avoid
errors, I had to be very careful with all the documents I deliver and those documents
that I had to recover from different clients. Knowing how to handle and tackle
different issues and still be respectful in both action and words is important. Not only
did I learn to interact with people, but I also learned how CPAs really work in the
real world. CPAs don’t just stay on their table; they also go to where the clients are.
They talk to the clients, and I am so lucky to be one of the interns to have the
opportunity to work on field. All these lessons I have learned will be very helpful
especially when I will be having my job as a CPA.

Ismael Accounting and Auditing Firm became an eye-opener for me. It gave
me a realization that you have to continuously transform yourself into something
better. The CEO of the firm is an inspiration, he started with a small office with some
of his employees and he continued growing the firm. The firm is now pursuing to get
ASEAN accreditation which is a big step and opportunity as well. It continues to
motivate me to become a CPA knowing that I had my training on one of the best
accounting and auditing firm of the North.

As soon as I had finished the training, I realized that this On-the-Job Training is
not just a part of the curriculum needed to be passed by students. OJT is a rewarding
and meaningful experience. The training gave me an insight that knowledge alone is
not enough. It is important, but is no guarantee of success. One must also have self-
actualization and discipline in order to have success.

I would advise future student-trainees to focus on their studies. It is difficult to


undergo the training without knowledge about the things they will be doing. They
can also search about the things they will doing in order to have a background or
basis. In my case, I did some readings before the training and it helped me a lot.

The staffs of Ismael Accounting and Auditing Firm are all very approachable.
They are also very generous with their ideas about their job. What I would only
suggest is that they should have a list of tasks prepared for the interns because there
are times that we are not doing anything. Nonetheless, I would still recommend the
firm as a company for future trainees because I know that it will help the trainees to
learn different things not only on Accounting but in different areas as well. I am also
considering the firm for my future employment as I have seen how it operates and
how the employees enjoy their work inside the firm.

The questions on my mind have been answered, I learned through listening,


observation, applications and lectures. Everything that I have learned from the staffs
and from the firm is another treasure for me. I can definitely use all the advices from
them. They also helped me enhance my communication which I find very helpful. All
the words from the staffs expanded my knowledge not only about the field of
accountancy but in different aspects of life as well.
