• Objective of Module:
– To introduce students to the fundamental concepts and
applications of Fluid Mechanics
• ME2134E/TME2134 and ME2135E/TME2135 are core Fluid
Mechanics modules for B. Tech. (Mechanical/Manufacturing
Engineering) undergraduates
• ME2134E/TME2134: prerequisite for ME2135E/TME2135
• ME2134E/TME2134 is a 4 MC module
 Continual Assessment (CA):
– 2 laboratory classes (refer to lab schedule):
(i) Stability of Floating Body (Venue: EA-04-21)
(ii) Flow and Energy Loss (Venue: EA-04-22)

Module Learning Outcomes
At the end of this module, students should be able to:

1. Classify different types of fluid, identify different flow


regimes, relate stress and rate of strain in a fluid.

2. Evaluate hydrostatic forces on submerged plane or


curved surfaces, and analyse problems involving fluids in
relative equilibrium undergoing translation and rotation.

3. Apply the Continuity equation, Bernoulli equation and the


momentum principle to analyse problems involving fluids
in motion.

At the end of this module, students should be able to:

4. Analyse fluid mechanics problems using Rayleigh and


Buckingham’s Pi Theorem and the concepts of modeling
and similitude.

5. Analyse energy loss in laminar and turbulent flow,


smooth and rough pipes, minor losses and apply Moody
chart.
