Personal Inventory
- Time is how I stay organized keep my life in line. Even though often I am never in control of the
time.
- The views are mixed with depending upon what the views are upon.
Time:
- Time moves quickly, if you blink you will miss your opportunity
Do people focus mainly on the moment, on whole lifetimes, the future, the past?
- It differs among people but I tend to focus on the moment as the future is not promised. The
past is there to learn from it but not to get held up within it.
In what point in history is the play set, written, performed? How do these impact?
How far does the audience or play move out of its own time?
Space:
- Space is literal but can also be abstract. Spiritually there is the belief that there is a higher power
but not in full agreement as to what that power is.
What are attitudes towards invasion and force? How is space violated?
- Invasion and force is not looked upon within the society as a good thing and space is
immediately violated.
How do these beliefs translate into audience proximity, and movement patterns?
- Audience is usually within that three foot distance, not any closer. Movement is either sitting or
standing within the three foot distance.
Place
Is the setting rural, metro, coastal, inland, protected, exposed, confined, open?
- The setting currently is rather open, inland, and pretty metro as in the central of campus.
- The environment looks new and old as there are many different renovations happening.
- The weather impacts what is happening greatly as the snow and rain can constantly come down
but does not affect the classes but does affect the events that do occur around the
environment.
How aware are people of other places? How provincial is their perspective?
- The other places around are des moines, boone, and Altoona.
- There are citizens of the world here as well as only this spot.
What is the relationship to nature? To what extent is the environment altered or accepted?
- The environment can be altered by the citizens walking amongst it and becomes accepted.
Values:
What are the beliefs most widely shared? What ideals?
- The beliefs are Christianity as religion has a large impact on the society.
What are the traditions and how large is the commitment to them?
- Some traditions are homecoming, the camponile, the zodiac. The people are very committed to
these.
How is the friendship, family, trust, and community defined and how are these bonds broken?
- All of the above are cherished greatly in the society and the bonds are broken through distrust
and betrayal.
- The heroes are the ones seen by society as risk takers who are willing to risk their lives for
someone else.
- Breaking the law, coveting what others have, sin is a choice that is made that for self
reward/pleasure. Forgiveness is the action of understanding that someone else has done wrong
to you and is asking for you to see that they are sorry.
- Money keeps the world spinning and is seen has something everyone has. Money is used to
purchase food, clothing, other essesntials.
What is the place of God and the church in life? Are these two ever confused?
- God is seen as the higher power within life and the church is the body of the congregation that
worships said God.
- Laughter cheers up the sadness and brings the thought of joy and happiness to the world. The
kind of dominating humor comes currently from Memes.
How is fear defined? What are its sources and how to people cope with it?
- Fear is the irrational fear that someone or something is going to attack you, or you will be
emotionally or physically attacked by said thing/person. We cope through having a better
understanding but at the same time falls deep into finding others who are willing to help.
- Emotion is expressed facially and physically through action and displays of affection and anger.
Suppression comes from hiding away from society.
Structure:
-The leaders within society uphold strong leadership positions and wear insignia to show importance.
- Change is inevitable
- It is seen as being a child and growing up to teen, young adult, college/adult, full adult, retiree,
and elderly
- Family is the ones who will love and cherish you when things get hard.
- Education is a big deal even though it does not receive or generate the most money.
How are groups created and identified? Which are most powerful?
- Cliques? Protests?
- Being a doctor or lawyer is seen as having money and is highly looked upon by society and a
good match for marriage.
Beauty:
What is the look, most aspired to, in this group?
- Models?
- Fitness is seen as being fit and skinny and wanting abs and being able to wear tight clothing
- The relationship is strong as they are all impacted by the same thing.
- Fashion is constantly changing but it has moments of returning to the past and repeating some
styles
- Nature is beautiful in itself and was nature impacts other elements of nature something
beautiful can be the product.
- Taste is how something makes you feel and what draws you in for me
Sex:
- Skinny body and fit are some turn ons. Turn offs would be obese, not the smartest, nerdy, jerk
- The abs are emphasized along with the arms and legs. Concealed are the genitals along with the
back, butt, and sometimes the face. Revealed are the hands and sometimes the face.
- There is one dominant force and one recessive force that does what it is told.
How is sexuality communicated?
- Through verbal expression along with items like flags and social announcements.
- A temptation or act to attract a mate through showing off the accentuated features one may
possess
- Usually the act, the chase is seen but not often heard. The pleasure is the important part as that
is what society emphasizes one must achieve, procreation is the final product of the pleasure.
- Infidelity is wrong and is not accepted within society as this makes the people look like sexual
objects other than people, adultery is seen as a sin within the church and other social groups.
Infidelity is the starting point leading on to promiscuity.
- I am not fully sure what this question is asking but I feel the expression of sex in media is what
pushes it onto the society but gives it an overall negative image thus wanting groups to suppress
it.
Recreation:
- A birthday or social party with drinking, games, social bonding, usually animals involved.
- Many are doers and will get involved with what is going on, but there is a small population of
those who are watchers.
- Society has placed a line on the ground saying some of the things like shopping, getting your
nails done, or drinking wine falls more on the feminine side of the spectrum as things such as
watching football, drinking beer, going to the bars, playing videogames falls to the male
population.
- Wine, pizza, beer, smoking, vaping, rum, pop, sushi, pasta, breaded or fried foods
What is the relative importance of recreation in life? The standard view of indulgence?
- The recreation within life keeps the anxiety and stress levels down as it is away to get away from
jobs and other commitments.
Sight:
How do all the above manifest themselves in the way the world looks, in shapes, angles, light, shadow,
patterns of movement?
- There are everywhere and make up the world that we live upon. Within the buildings, day or
night, how the people move
- Color is everywhere and how it is reflected within clothing, highlights in hair, the length of
different things.
- When we approach someone or something to embrace or confront them the speed at which we
come at them or the position of how we stand lays down the significance.
Sound:
- The fluctuation of our voices and the syllables with hard accents can express our emotions with
verbally speaking. Our body language with how we are standing and walking, same with playing
with hair, twiddling thumbs, all can show nonverbally how we are feeling at that moment.
- Listening is prized more over speaking as speaking should be a reaction to a conversation after
listening.
What vocal quality is most desired, rewarded, emulated for what reasons?
Is there standardized pronunciation or great variance? Which part of pitch register is employed?
- There is a great variance within society on how someone may be sounding and differs greatly
within the pitch registry.
- Word choice is very important and can mean the difference between a table that five people sit
around or a sturdy table that five people stand upon.
- Music is what many people return to constantly as an escape from the given reality that they are
living within. Same with how dance impacts life and can free the stressed muscles.
