How to attract farmers:


 Major One problem is of Spot payments - BigBasket in the initial phase can change its policy
and give spot payments. If not, they can ask one of their trusted trader to give Spot payment from
their end and then can give him payment according to company policy with some commission.
 Procure from Farmers Directly - BigBasket should procure from farmers directly even if they
may end up with small loss in the beginning because once they gain the trust of farmers then
farmers don‟t mind selling them at some lower prices in the future.
 Transportation – If company opens up Collection centre then Transportation cost should be borne
by company itself as to give them an edge over Commission agents and motivate farmers to bring
their produce till Collection centre
 Sales Receipt- Its benefit should be conveyed to farmers that how it will help them in getting
bank loans
 Logistics – Company should maintain its own logistics as it will help them to save the cost on
larger scale
 Devising a pricing mechanism and a different pathway to sell lower grade of fruits &
vegetable to them i.e. Juice sellers, Cart owners, whole sellers or commission agents
who can sell them at better prices.
 In the survey it was found that 40% farmers directly said „no‟ for selling their produce to
company. 45% farmers said they will sell only if company buys complete produce at
better prices. 45% farmers denied bringing their produce to Collection centre. Few
farmers demanded that they will bring to Collection centre if company bears
transportation cost.Most of the farmers are ready to sell at one rupee less if complete
produce is lifted.
 Expanding the plan of Karnataka in other states by giving them training on grading , packaging
and quality (can assign the leader farmer- collection centre head to supervise it)
 We can increase the customer base by including hotel mess and canteen in our model. We can
provide the f&v which are of optimum quality but do not match certain standards.
