1. Synopsis
This course will expose students to designing classroom tests that are carefully aligned with
the curriculum, and to the construction of quality objective and subjective test items. The
content of this course covers the concepts of assessment, types of assessments, steps in test
and item construction, and using descriptive statistics and item analysis to interpret
classroom assessment data and for instructional decision-making.

2. Objective
After completing this course, students should be able to:
2.1 Understand the underlying theories and concepts of assessment in teaching and
learning.
2.2 Acquire the knowledge and necessary skills related to the principles and practices
of assessment in the classroom.
2.3 Develop statistical concepts in educational assessments
3. Course learning outcomes
Upon completion of the course, students are able to

3.1 distinguish clearly between test, measurement, assessment and evaluation. (C2)
3.2 apply the principles in the practical construction of tests. (C3, A2)
3.3 apply basic statistical concepts, calculations, and analyses
in education. (C3, P1)
3.4 interpret tests in general and continuous assessment in particular. (C5)
3.5 construct a classroom test. (C6, P4)
