Lesson Guide in Earth and Life Science

I. OBJECTIVES

A. Content Standards How the planet Earth evolved in the last 4.6 billion years.

Describe the possible geologic events that occurred in a certain area based
B. Performance Standards
on the rock layers found therein.

C. Learning Competencies/ At the end of the session, students are expected to:
Objectives 1. Describe the history of the Earth through geologic time (S11ES-IIj-42)

HISTORY OF THE EARTH

II. CONTENT
(Major Events in Earth’s Past)

III. LEARNING RESOURCES

A. References
1. Teacher’s Guide pages
2. Learner’s Manual pages

IV. PROCEDURES

A. Reviewing previous lesson or Ask the students about the previous topic, let them describe how index
presenting new lesson fossils are being used to define and identify subdivisions of the geologic
(REVIEW) time scale.

The lesson will begin with a game entitled, “ LET’s CONNECT”

The class will be divided into 5 groups. Each group is tasked to arranged
B. Establishing a purpose of the lesson
a puzzle connecting it to the different events in a geologic time scale.
(MOTIVATION)
After forming the puzzle, the lesson will be tackled and scores will be
given to groups who have done the activity correctly.

Based on the puzzle that have been completed, the following questions will
be raised:
1. What have you observed regarding the puzzle?
C. Presenting examples/instances of
2. What are the two main eons responsible in the evolution of organisms?
the new lesson
3. Is the events significant in the existence of the different organisms on
(PRE-ACTIVITY)
Earth?
4. Trace the different events that happened in every eras and periods of
the geologic time scale.

D. Discussing new concepts and

practicing new skills 1 Let each group choose a leader to present and explain the puzzle that they
1
(ACTIVITY PROPER) formed based on the given guide questions. While the group is performing,
tell other groups to observe closely because they will later critic each
presentation.

The following performances will be graded using a validated rubics.

(20pts.) EXCELLENT
 Portrayed the different roles assigned to showcase how the different
types of waste affect the people’s health and the environment.
 Utilized appropriate props/materials.
 Strictly follows the time allotment to perform the performance task.

(15pts.) VERY SATISFACTORY - Did not meet one of the expectations

(10pts.) GOOD – Did not meet two of the expectations
(5pts.) FAIR – Did not meet any of the expectations

E. Discussing new concepts and

practicing new skills 2 After each presentation, deepening/evaluation will take place.
(DEEPENING)
F. Developing mastery
Let the students construct a “Clock of Eras”.
(POST-ACTIVITY)
***The teacher will explain the procedures in making the “Clock of Eras”.

G. Finding practical applications of

concepts and skills in daily living Ask the students, “Why is it important to know the geologic events that
(APPLICATION) took place on Earth?” Let them defend their answers.
H. Making generalizations and
abstractions about the lesson Let the students make a short generalization on the lesson.
(GENERALIZATION)
I. Evaluating learning
Short quiz
(ASSESSMENT)

Construct your own history of Earth using GTS (Geologic time scale).
Research on what type of organisms were present in each eon/eras.
Create a timeline with drawing of the organisms in the correct eon/eras.

The following output will be graded using a validated rubics.

(20pts.) EXCELLENT
J. Additional activities for application or  Created a timeline showcasing the different geologic events of different
remediation organisms.
(REMEDIAL)  Identify precisely the organism present in each eon/eras.
 Demonstrate understanding on the proper sequence of geologic
events.
 Presented the history of the Earth using GTS in proper order.

(15pts.) VERY SATISFACTORY - Did not meet one of the expectations

(10pts.) GOOD – Did not meet two or three of the expectations
