This workshop provides hands-on training in mentoring skills to postdoctoral scholars who seek to
develop their own mentoring style in order to work effectively with undergraduates, graduate
students and research assistants.

REU (Research Experience for Undergraduates) in Complex Psychological Systems 2013-2015

Funded by the National Sciences Foundation
University of Cincinnati, Department of Psychology
This summer intensive is focused on broadening the participation of historically underrepresented
groups within STEM research. Over the course of each summer I worked as an assistant mentor to a
single student alongside my graduate adviser, providing supervision in experimental design, data
collection and analysis, and research presentation.

EMERGE (Ethnic Minority Enrichment in Research and Graduate Education) 2012

University of Cincinnati, Department of Psychology
This week-long program is designed to assist students in their preparation for applying to graduate
school in Psychology. As a mentor I helped students as they developed personal statements to be
included within their applications and was part of a graduate student panel aimed at addressing
student’s questions and concerns about the application process.

TEACHING EXPERIENCE

Instructor of Record Fall 2014

University of Cincinnati, Department of Psychology
Course: Research Methods and Statistics II (new course design)
This course is the second in a two-part series of Research Methods and Statistics for undergraduate
psychology students. This series takes an integrated approach to understanding methods and
statistics, with the second part focusing on more advanced research designs and statistical concepts,
along with continued development of APA-style writing. In addition to two weekly lectures, students
attend a weekly lab session focused on data management and the use of statistical software.

Instructor of Record Summer 2014

University of Cincinnati, Department of Psychology
Course: Sensation and Perception
This course examines human sensory systems and perceptual experiences by evaluating a variety of
traditional and contemporary theories of perception and perceptual processing. There is also an
Washburn, Auriel- CV

emphasis on empirical and theoretical support for the close relationship between action and
perception.
