invertebrate) and how vertebrates are sorted into groups (fish, amphibian, reptile, bird, and
mammal) using data from multiple sources.

Universal Design for Learning (UDL):

UDL options for this assignment are having a checklist for all students, multiple options for students to pick
their topics, flexible work spaces, and regular feedback from me throughout the work time.

Lesson idea implementation:

Students will view the Popplet example created by the teacher, then they will go on to create their own. The
students will sign up on a shared excel sheet what topic they want, so that way there won’t be too many
repeats. The students will follow a check list of what they need to research and have on their Popplet. The
students will be able to work in groups of two. The students will share their work to the whole class and the
class will be required to take notes, so that they are getting the information as well.

Before the students break free and start the assignment, they will be introduced to the topics through a
PowerPoint instructed by the teacher, then they have a Popplet example for them to use. They will be
informed that their Popplets are expected to be way more in depth. The technology that will be used will be
laptops and if those are not available the students will have to head to the computer lab. On the laptops, the
students will be using Popplet, Office 365 Excel Spreadsheets, and conducting research through student
friendly websites.

Beyond-the-Basic Productivity Tools (BBPT)
The project will take two to three days to complete and then two to three days to present. The students will
be assessed by a rubric based on the standard and the checklist given to them before they started the project.
Students’ learning can be extended by having them do a ticket out the door comparing the different types of
animals and this will also allow for a closing.

Reflective Practice:

I think this lesson idea would be so fun to implement into a classroom. You can extend this project into an
informational paper that can be implemented in during ELA/Writing time. That paper can be informing the
reader about different types of animals and the students would have the freedom of choosing the animals
that most interest them. The students will be using laptops for this project, so adding the paper they can
write their final copy on a word document and they also will be needing them for research.
