Dorothy Dietrich Gets a Lifetime Achievement Award to a Spontaneous Standing Ova

At Metro-Magic's yearly Gala VIP convention this week Dorothy Dietrich received
the first standing ovation ever given an award winner in the history of the awar
ds.
Scranton, PA, October 11, 2010 -- At Metro-Magic's yearly Gala VIP convention th
is week Dorothy Dietrich received the first standing ovation ever given an award
winner in the history of the awards. The event filled the room with the one of
the largest crowds of the day. The response was unanimous.
In giving her the award Bill Wisch, one of the organizers of the event along wit
h Bob Solari, called her a world-class magician and mentioned some of her unique
accomplishments such as escaping from a straitjacket while suspended hundreds o
f feet in the air from a burning rope on an HBO special, her record breaking bul
let catch, her Houdini Museum, her being featured on CBS, NBC, ABC, BBC, CBC, Tr
avel Channel, Biography Channel, TV Land, etc. Also mentioned were her highly su
ccessful Magic Towne House in New York City, the Houdini Seances, The Psychic Th
eater Show and Hocus Pocus Magazine.
Dorothy, in an emotional response expressed her gratitude to those magicians who
helped her along the way, and continue to support her. Among those mentioned we
re Walter B. Gibson, Dick Brooks, Meir Yedid, Lou Lancaster, Tony Curtis, and al
l of the many of the performers at The Magic Towne House, and others.
She brought along a few television film clips which to show the attendees.
Two other upcoming events were announced that will also feature Dorothy Dietrich
.
The Houdini Seance at Scranton's Houdini Museum, which will also feature world r
enowned illusionist John Calvert. Scranton's Mayor Doherty has proclaimed Sunday
October 31, 2010 as John Calvert Day. There will also be a show, and lecture by
John Calvert as well as a tribute to Tony Curtis the actor who played Houdini i
n the famous Paramount biopic about the legendary escape artist.
On Thursday November 11, 2010, Dorothy Dietrich will be on a panel with â Dean of Ame
rican Magiciansâ George Schindler and Houdini biographer Kenneth Silverman to discus
s why the legendary magician occupies such a prominent place in American popular
culture. The evening will include archival footage of classic Houdini escapes a
nd a special live recreation of his signature straitjacket escape by Dorothy Die
trich.
