Palarong Pambansa 2016

Every year, the biggest sporting event in the Philippines called the Palarong Pambansa is being
held. It is an event where every region in the Philippines competes with each other to know which
region has the better arsenal of sports players. The events in Palarong Pambansa range from athletics,
arnis, archery, aquatics, wushu up to team sports games such as Basketball, Football and Baseball. It has
a different venue every year. This year, the Palarong Pambansa 2016 is in Bicol University Sports
Complex located Albay, Philippines. This will be from April 10 – April 16, 2016.

This Palarong Pambansa is slightly different as compared to the other Palarong Pambansas in
the past because of the fact that this is the year where the Negros Integrated Region (Region 18)
separates itself from the Western Visayas Regional Athletic Association (Region 6). The separation of
these regions will be greatly monitored by Filipino sports enthusiasts because of the fact that the
Western Visayas Regional Athletic Association together with the Negros Integrated Region is the
strongest rival of the National Capital Region, the region that dominates the event every year, through
the years. With the separation of the two regions, it is possible that Western Visayas Regional Athletic
Association will drop in the rankings. With the inclusion of Negros Integrated Region (comprised of
Negros Occidental and Negros Oriental), a total of 18 teams are participating in this year’s Palarong
Pambansa 2016.
