I am a penultimate year student pursuing a master’s degree in Economics from The London

School of Economics and I wish to apply for a graduate position in economic consulting.

My interest for economic consulting stems from my undergraduate degree in economics. After
having completed a bachelor’s degree in economics and having learnt the basic tenets of the
course, I am quite fascinated by the concepts of cost-benefit analysis, forecasting of economic
variables and econometric tools learnt in class. I am eager to learn how to apply these theories
to real world scenarios like estimating the value of an investment project or identifying the key
macroeconomic variables and policies undertaken in the economy and how they might affect
the business concerned. Therefore, a place on this graduate scheme would allow me to use my
degree and contribute my best to the growth of PwC.

I was a member of the organizing team conducting a fest for the economics department of my
university in India. I was a part of the sponsorship team whose role was to gather funds for the
event. We were able to raise a total of Rs.2.5 lakhs (£2500) from 17 sponsors. This
demonstrates the necessary communication skills and team working abilities that are essential
for the role. A First Class Honours qualification in my undergraduate degree and a steady focus
to attain a distinction at LSE highlights my focus for this role. I value contributing to the
welfare of society and have taken up voluntary roles in my country such as teaching
underprivileged children and monitoring co-volunteers, which again coincides with the core
values of PwC- “giving back to the society”.

PwC promotes a less competitive atmosphere in the sense that the core of the business is how
the firm values diversity and promotes difference by building an environment where everyone
can be themselves. I am also impressed that the firm promotes its employment engagement
scheme by implementing the “Connect-Embed-Improve plan. I believe that employees who
feel valued have higher productivity and a greater motivation to give back to their company,
colleagues and community. PwC is well known for its coaching culture, and its skill
development training for its employees. The main focus is on senior employees sharing their
knowledge to help facilitate learning.

Working as a full time consultant with you is something that I look forward to and I am sure
that I will be a useful member for your company. Thank you for your time and consideration,
I look forward to hearing from you.

Yours sincerely,
Arjun Varma
