OBJECTIVES :

Modal “would like to”
1. Intentions
We use “be going to” to talk about future plans and intentions. Usually, the decision about
the future plans has already been made.
For example:
- She’s going to be a professional teacher when she grows up.
- I’m going to watch “venom” movie next week.
2. Predictions
We use “be going to” to predict something that we think is certain to happen or which we
have evidence for now.
For example:
- It’s going to rain again soon. (The speaker can probably see dark snow clouds.)
- Look out! He’s going to break that glass.

The form of “be going to”
For example:
- I’m going to present my procedure text about “how to create an ombre lips”
- I’m going to be difficult to get a job during the summer as the tourist industry is suffering
from economic downturn.
The positive and negative structures for “be going to” are as follows:

A long weekend is coming. Riri, Santi, and Bayu are talking about their holiday plans. Pay attention to the
pronunciation and intonation of the dialog below.
Santi : Uhm, I’m not sure. I don’t have any idea yet. I think I might stay at home.
Santi : So, what about you Bayu? Do you have any plans?
Santi : Fishing? Are you going to go fishing in the river near your house?
Bayu : No. We plan to go fishing in a lake near my uncle’s house. Would you like to come with us? Santi
: Fishing? That sounds great. But I would rather stay at home than go fishing.
Bayu : What about you, Riri? What would you like to do on the long weekend?
Riri : I have made a plan with my mother about what to do on this long weekend. We are going to
practice baking cookies.
Bayu : Are you going to bake Choco chips cookies like the last time?
