Russian-Jewish immigrant family. As a kid, Aaron loved music and poetry, which lead him to
believing he wanted to become a writer when he grew up. After graduating from Dewitt Clinton
High School, he earned his Bachelor of Social Science degree in Literature from the College of
the City of New York in 1926. After, he went on to become an English teacher in the New York
City public school system for 21 years. He loved dong this until he found what he really loved
from anything abstract such as road surfaces, peeling plaster, road signs, and graffiti. He mainly
took photographs of close-up details of items such as asphalt pavement, rocks, lava flows and
painted walls. He began his career in photography as a member of the Photo League in the
1930s. a bit later, he started taking pictures with amazing textures, shapes, and abstract form. His
pictures included normal items but the way he took them was unique! From 1947 to 1949, he
taught photography at Trenton Junior College in Trenton, New Jersey. Around 1950, he joined
the faculty of the IIT Institute of Design in Chicago because his colleague persuaded him to join.
In 1929, he received a camera as a wedding gift and this is what lead him to loving photography.
He spent most of his honeymoon taking photographs in Bermuda. He even later on served as co-
editor of Choice Magazine! Aaron received many awards and achievements for his amazing
work. He was an inspiration to many because he gave a view of photography that no one else had
given before. His uniqueness and talent got him many notices. Siskind accomplished many
things and was an amazing photographer. Unfortunately, later on, his life came to an end due to a
