EXPERIMENT No: 1

TITLE:

“To Verify theImpulse Momentum Principle for a jet of water striking on 90,120 and 180
deflection and to investigate the effect of velocity of flow on impulse force of the jet for
various deflection ”
INTRODUCTION:

The impulse-momentum states that the change in momentum of an object equals the impulse applied to
it. The impulse-momentum theorem is logically equivalent to Impact of jet apparatus is a very simple
apparatus which directly measure the impulse force of the jet by an equivalent weight placed I the pan.

OBJECTIVE:
The objective of this experiment is to determine the Impulse Momentum Principle.

PROCEDURE:

 Level the apparatus.

 At zero load and zero flow rate adjust the pointer.
 Switch on the pump.
 Place the load and gradually open the valve till the collar reaches its original position.
 Note down the time to collect the known volume of water in jet.
 Repeat the previous steps for 100gm, 150gm, and 200gm load increment till the valve is
completely open.
