1. Adam sinned but his children did not share his guilt.
The one who sins is the one who will die. The child will not share the guilt of the parent,
nor will the parent share the guilt of the child. -- Ezekiel 18:20
2. Death came to all people because all sinned and separated themselves from God.
But your sins have come between you and your God, and by your evil doings his face has
been veiled from you, so that he will give you no answer. – Isaiah 59:2
Therefore, just as sin entered the world through one man, and death through sin, and in this
way death came to all people, because all sinned — Romans 5:12
3. Jesus of Nazareth who was God, created the universe and came to earth to take on
Himself the sins of the whole world when he could have destroyed them. This is love
defined as self-sacrifice for one’s enemies, in imitation of Christ.
In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He
was with God in the beginning. Through Him all things were made, and without Him nothing
was made that has been made. – John 1:1-3
He is the atoning sacrifice for our sins, and not only for ours but also for the sins of the
whole world.– 1 John 2:2
“He himself bore our sins” in his body on the cross, so that we might die to sins and live for
righteousness; “by his wounds you have been healed.” – 1 Peter 2:24
For to this you were called, because Christ also suffered for you, leaving you an example,
that you should follow in His footsteps: “He committed no sin, and no deceit was found in
His mouth.” When they heaped abuse on Him, He did not retaliate; when He suffered, He
made no threats, but entrusted Himself to Him who judges justly.- 1 Peter 2:21-23
4. Jesus of Nazareth taught his followers to do good to their enemies and He
preached good news to the poor.
But to you who are listening I say: Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you,
bless those who curse you, pray for those who mistreat you. – Luke 6:27-28
With righteousness he will judge the needy, with justice he will give decisions for the poor
of the earth. – Isaiah 11:4
The Spirit of the Lord is on me, because he has anointed me to proclaim good news to the
poor. He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners and recovery of sight for the
blind, to set the oppressed free… – Luke 4:18
5. Jesus of Nazareth came to life again after His execution, and this gave hope to all
His followers that they too will live again.
Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! By His great mercy, He has given
us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, and
into an inheritance that is imperishable, undefiled, and unfading, reserved in heaven for you.
– 1 Peter 1:3-4
6. We are crucified with Christ and freed from sin when we are baptized into Christ.
We were therefore buried with him through baptism into death in order that, just as Christ
was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, we too may live a new life. For if
we have been united with him in a death like his, we will certainly also be united with him in
a resurrection like his. For we know that our old self was crucified with him so that the body
ruled by sin might be done away with, that we should no longer be slaves to sin— because
anyone who has died has been set free from sin.-- Romans 6:4-7
7. We must live for Him who died for us.
And he died for all, that those who live should no longer live for themselves but for him who
died for them and was raised again. – 2 Corinthians 5:15
8. A Day of Eternal Judgment is coming for all humanity.
Multitudes who sleep in the dust of the earth will awake: some to everlasting life, others to
shame and everlasting contempt. – Daniel 12:2
“Then they will go away to eternal punishment, but the righteous to eternal life.”
– Matthew 25:46
For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, so that each of us may receive
what is due us for the things done while in the body, whether good or bad.
– 2 Corinthians 15:10
9. Until He comes, Christians meet together to encourage one another in faith and to
remember the body and blood of Christ given for the forgiveness of sins.
Now as they were eating, Jesus took bread, and after blessing it broke it and gave it to the
disciples, and said, “Take, eat; this is my body.” And he took a cup, and when he had given
thanks he gave it to them, saying, “Drink of it, all of you, for this is my blood of the[c]
covenant, which is poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins. I tell you I will not drink
again of this fruit of the vine until that day when I drink it new with you in my Father's
kingdom.” – Matthew 26:26-29
For I received from the Lord what I also delivered to you, that the Lord Jesus on the night
when he was betrayed took bread, and when he had given thanks, he broke it, and said,
“This is my body, which is for you. Do this in remembrance of me.” In the same way also he
took the cup, after supper, saying, “This cup is the new covenant in my blood. Do this, as
often as you drink it, in remembrance of me.” - 1 Corinthians 11:23-25
