5 Warm-up minutes -T greets SS Greeting -T: Welcome to my class. -T writes the date on the BB. 25 Presentation: minutes - T writes the following dialogue on the BB Setting the scene Teacher: Sorry to say this, but you are stepping on my foot. Student: ooh, I am so sorry. Teacher: It’s ok. Dialogue + acting Student: Just a second I will fix it. out -T asks SS to read the dialogue at least twice. -T writes the title of the lesson on the BB Expressing a complaint -T asks SS to look at the dialogue and answer the following questions: -T: What is the teacher doing? -SS: Asking the student to stop stepping on his foot. -T: Good, so the teacher doesn’t like that (complaining). How did you know? Which expression did he use? -SS: “sorry to say this, but……….?” Questions/answers -T: Excellent. -T: What is the student’s response? -SS: “ooh, I am so sorry” -T: Good. So he apologized. -T draws the following chart on the BB. -T asks SS to give other expressions they know. -T elicits answers from SS and writes them on the BB. -T fills in the chart. Complaining Apologizing Accepting the apology -Sorry to say this but….. -I do apologize -Never mind -I’m afraid I have a -I’m sorry/I am very sorry. -It’s ok complaint about……….. -It’s all my fault -Don’t worry about it Chart -I’m sorry to bother you, -sorry about that. -No problem but………………….. -My apologies -It’s alright -Maybe you forgot to…. -It doesn’t matter Eliciting -Enough is enough. -forget about it. Checking comprehension -T reads out an exchange between A and B and sees whether SS will notice something wrong. Abdo: I have been waiting so long for you, enough is enough!!! Madiha: Thank you. So what can you say to Abdo? -SS: I’m very sorry. 8 Drilling: minutes - T reads the following dialogue for SS: Mother: How many times did I ask you to clean your room? Enough is enough. replacement Son: I am sorry Mom. I will clean it now. drills Mother: It’s ok. -T asks SS to use another expression to make a complaint, to apologize, and to accept apology. 22 Exploitation: minutes - T provides SS with issues and asks them to make dialogues using the target structure.
