BEULAH UMC

Worship God • Serve Others • Welcome All Fall 2018

From the Pastor’s Desk

The season of Advent is quickly approaching! Our world tends to jump
quickly into the joy of Christmas Day, but this period of waiting—of
anticipating the birth of Christ—is important. It reminds us of the “Connecting and
waiting Mary had to do, and it gives us time to prepare ourselves for
growing in love,
Christ’s coming.
This Advent, I invite you to wait and prepare in a variety of ways. You hope, and peace
can find our worship schedule for December on the back of this through worshipping
newsletter. We will also have a devotion book available to anyone who
would like it. This devotional, similar to the one we offered during Lent, God, serving others,
provides a short reflection and prayer each day as we anticipate
Christmas Day. We will also have a calendar of Advent Faith Practices and welcoming
available. This calendar provides a suggested practice for each day, such all people as we
as a way to serve, a prayer, or another activity. Both of these will be
available at the church on November 25. If you would like a copy, but embrace tradition
are unable to pick them up, please let us know and we will gladly send
and transformation.”
you one!
I would like to lift up our Longest Night Service. This is a time of worship - Mission Statement
that may be unfamiliar to many, but I find it one of the most meaningful of Beulah UMC
services of the year. For many people, joy is not the only emotion they
feel during Advent. This service provides a space for mixed emotions, for
grief, and for loneliness, while reminding you of God’s compassionate
love. I encourage you to attend.
May you find hope, peace, joy, and love this Advent season.

Children’s
Sabbath

On Sunday, October 14,

the children and youth led us in worship,
including the sermon!.

They helped us live into Jesus’ words in

Mark, “Let the little children come to me.”

We are proud and blessed to have such a

remarkable group of young people!

Food Bank News January 2

February 6
The Food Bank continues to be a vital and well known mission in the
Beulah Community. From July through September we averaged
serving 55 recipients with an average of 22 lbs. of food on each Food
Bank Tuesday. With the holidays and winter around the corner, we
expect an increase in the number of recipients.

We purchase dry goods and frozen meat for 18 cents a pound at East
Alabama Food Bank in Auburn. Fresh vegetables and fruit along with
some brands of bread are free. Beginning January 2019, all fresh
vegetables and fruit will cost 9 cents a pound. We have been fortunate
for many years to not have a charge on these items. This means we
can look for an increase in the cost to
operate the Food Bank in 2019.

Beulah Baptist Church is a dedicated

supporter of our Food Bank mission. They
send a quarterly check to help purchase
food and every month they send food
items they collect to add to our donation
pantry. If you have friends and/or family
at Beulah Baptist, please let them know
how much we appreciate their faithful
support.

If you are interested in working at the

Food Bank, please contact Angie Ward,
Linda Dicks or Kathy Herren. You can also
leave a message at the church office and it
will be forwarded to us.
