Student justifications: Teacher Justifications:

Summative 1
I would give myself an 6 because analyzed the novel and
identified my theme clearly in the essay. I had enough
evidence to support my thesis and I also justified my
ideas with explanations. I also compared all the
characters to show differences and similarities.
Summative 2
I would give myself an 5 because I chose a theme that is
shown in the novel and connected with my life. I provided
examples in my life and how that connects with my life. I
didn’t talk about techniques and style that much.

Task specific clarifications:

Summative #1: You will follow the structure of a literary analysis essay by including an introduction paragraph, multiple
body paragraphs and a conclusion paragraph. You will use effectively use transitions and follow appropriate formatting.
Summative #2: You will write a reflective essay effectively, logically organizing your ideas so that the connection
between the novel’s theme and your own life is clear.

Student justifications: Teacher Justifications:

Summative 1
I would give myself an 6 because I followed the structure
that was given. I have an introduction, four body
paragraph and also a conclusion. Between those
paragraphs and ideas, I have added transitions to make
them flow better. The formatting is 12 point font and
times new roman.

Summative 2
I would give myself an 5 because this is a reflective essay
and there is no specific structure to it as the first one, just
to fully explain how the theme connects with my life. I
used transitions throughout my paragraphs but,
sometimes my ideas weren't building upon each other.

(you will use first-person point of view) with few grammar, syntax, spelling, or punctuation errors.

Student justifications: Teacher Justifications:

Summative 1
I would give myself an 6 because I used a varied range of
vocabulary and sentence structure that express my ideas
fully. I use grammar correctly throughout my essay with
little mistakes during my rough drafts but, it does not
hinder any confusions.
Summative 2
I would give my self an 5 because I think I didn’t just a
range of appropriate vocabulary and sentences structure
and because this essay is handwritten there is no spell
check or grammar check, therefore, I think I would have
made some mistakes.
