Poor Population in Urban and Rural Area in Indonesia Between 1980 and 2009

The graph illustrated the number of poor population in urban and rural area in Indonesia from
1980 to 2009. The main trend, poor population in urban area inclined, while number of poor
people in rural areas declined during 29 years. Both of them got the lowest point in 1990 and
experienced fluctuation trend afterward.
In 1980, there were 9.50 million of poor people who lived in urban area, lower than in rural
area. Then the number of poor people decreased slightly to 9.40 million in 1990 and increased
mildly to 12.40 million in 2000. It reached the peak of about 12.40 million of poor people in
2005. On the other hand, number of poor people in rural area were 32.80 million in 1980.
Furthermore, it dropped significantly and touched to the lowest point in 1990 by 17.80 million.
However, it increased to 26.40 million in 2000 and continued to declined moderately in 2009
by 20.62 million.
In addition, the bar graph also described the gap of poor population number between who
lived in urban and rural area. The biggest gap between poor population in urban and rural area
were 23.3 million which occurred in 1980. Meanwhile, the lowest gap of poor population were
8.4 million which happened in 1990. Moreover, the gap widen in 2000, then it continued to
narrow by 8.71 in 2009.
In general, the statistic showed that there were more poor people who lived in rural area than
in urban area of Indonesia between 1980 and 2009.
