Letters & Sounds: Phase Three


Objectives WALT: We are learning to recognise, read and write the air
grapheme.
WILF: Students will endeavour to complete the appointed task
where they have an opportunity to strengthen their understanding of
the tri-graph air.
WALA: We are learning about the different graphemes in SAE.
TIB: There are various grapheme choices in SAE with many sounds
and we must learn how to differentiate and use the correct sounds
for contextual and grammatical purposes.
Duration 20 minutes

Student Prior - Format of Phonics learning within the class.


Knowledge - Previous learned letters and sounds.
- Previously tasks related to the Letters and Sounds guidelines.

Learning strategies & Activity One: Play dough Sounds.


activities: - Students use yellow play dough to make the air
Developmental sound and blue play dough to make other sounds in
air words.
Drill & Skill - Students use iPads to take photos of words.

You do 15 min Activity Two: Memory.


- Using pre-made air word cards students play Memory. The cards
have dots and lines and these must be checked and matched on the
Memory.
Activity Three:
Washing Line Phonics.
Students use pre-made card to make air words using CVC and
whole word.
Hang on line;

Activity Four (Use assistant in this game)


Phonic Hoops
60 seconds to make words.
Students choose air word (in one hoop) and air CVC (in other hoop)
join CVC to make the air word - write the word on A-frame
whiteboard.
Chair - ch air
Activity Five:
Dice Bingo
- Roll the dice. Say the word.
- Loop the air sound.
- Cross out word.
- When one row complete BINGO.

Activity Six:
Crazy Art Word Find
On worksheet loop air words
Write them on mini whiteboard.
Learning strategies & Teachers rotate and guide or scaffold.
