Slide one- define chemical change
Slide 2- Burning
Slide 3 Decaying
Slide 4- oxidation- show students apple that had been cut
apart earlier this morning. Discuss how the apple would be
different if it hadn’t been cut, why?
Slide 5-Cooking is always a chemical change Even though it
looks like a different, it has a different texture and odor and
it cannot go back to the way it was before so therefore it
has changed chemically.
- Pass around cooked and uncooked pasta, allow
students to discuss how they differ and t-chart on
guided notes.

We do – Complete chemistry in a bag lab.


SWBAT answer the following questions in the student side of
their journal:
1. Which chemical inside is changing color (baking soda,
alcohol, turmeric, etc.)?
2. Why do you think so?
3. How could you find out?
Encourage students to add any two ingredients to see which
is responsible for color change
4. How can you tell there is gas or air inside the bag? Can
you see it?
5. What new chemical or chemicals are being produced?
How can you tell?
6. Where do you think the heat is coming from?
