ME and the STUDENT TECHNOLOGIST AND ENTREPRENEURSHIP

OF THE PHILIPPINES
By: Blair D. Castillon

I believe that Student Technologists and Entrepreneur of the Philippines (STEP)

and its capability to make a difference in the life of every student. Learning a
skill and be mastered is a significance step away from poverty which so charact
erize our nation today. We cannot afford to watch our countryâ s economy dwindle cont
inuously and worsen, draining the studentâ s capacity and letting poverty eat up all
our human resources. It is in this department where hope lies and opportunities
abound, not to totally deteriorate economic condition of our country.
This justification for nomination was being made to the efforts exerted and shar
ed by the nominee for the extraordinary and selfless contributions to the STEP o
rganization in particular and to the cause of skills development in general.
When the STEP was conceived as a result of unifying the Future Farmers of the Ph
ilippines(FFP), Future Homemakers of the Philippines (FHP), Future Agricultural
Homemakers of the Philippines (FAHP) and all other existing Technology and Home
Economics (THE) organizations, the nominee worked hard for the realization of it
s mission to enhance education by providing holistic quality co-curricular progr
am, projects and activities that will prepare the Filipino children and youth to
wards the new millennium.
The STEP local membership fee as a voluntary contribution was sanctioned and col
lected by the Parents-Teachers and Community Association (PTCA) and has always
a linkage and coordinated its treasurer, thus hundred percent collections for ST
EP was formally collected by the PTCA and turned over to the local STEP officer
for formal auditing and legally used each year. Being the STEP coordinator from
2001 up to the present, the school garnered various awards in the division, regi
onal and even in national STEP competition due to his intensive supervision on s
kills training. The STEP organization in the school is well managed and organize
d and new set of officers was elected yearly with the support of the TLE teacher
s and STEP teachersâ advisers. Trainers and coaches in competitive skills were alway
s reminded and guided on its guidelines for proper implementation and conduct of
each skill. Some projects were made possible in the campus and some tools and m
aterials were being purchased. The attendances of school delegation to its conte
st venue were materialized each year due to his efforts with the support of the
school administrator, staff, teachers and stakeholders.
As a secondary teacher of this school, majoring Technology and Livelihood Educat
ion (TLE), I was also able to bring pride to the school due to my achievements a
s a trainer and a coach to the different levels of STEP competition. So as to sh
ow proofs, me and my contestant participated and garnered the fourth place in f
ishpond layout in the STEP-Regional Competition and Work Conference in Aloran, M
isamis Oriental, 2002. Beyond my knowledge, I never knew that it was the start o
f my success in the field of fishpond lay outing and project proposal making. On
the following year, I participated and won the sixth place in fishpond layout a
nd also a sixth placer in project proposal in broiler production in STEP Regiona
l Competition in Malaybalay City. In 2004, my winning was much victorious for I
bagged down the first place in Project Proposal in Layer Production in the divis
ion STEP skills competition and was one of the members in the working committee.
Taking home the bacon did not end at the division level. I also won first place
in Project proposal in STEP-Regional Skills Development and Competition (RSDC)
in Iligan City and was also the committee chairman on program and social committ
ees. Months after my achievements, I was chosen to be the regional representativ
e to the STEP- National Skills Development and Competition (NSDC) at Naga City i
n Project Proposal in Broiler Production.
STEP Competition is always held annually, again in the year 2005 I was the first
placer in Project Proposal in Layer Production and a contest facilitator in the
division STEP skills competition. Moving on the next level of the competition,
I ranked as the first placer in the regional level of the Project Proposal in La
yer Production at Valencia City and was part of the representative for the natio
nal level at General Santos City.
The succeeding year, I served as a contest facilitator and at the same time won
first place in Project Proposal in Animal Production, division level, and repres
ented this division at the regional level. Being the first placer on the said re
gional competition, I proudly represented this region in Bagiuo City for the STE
P-NSDC and won third place in Project Proposal in Animal Production.
As of last year, I was a member of the planning committee and a chairman of the
said committee in the local competition as the division STEP venue for the secon
dary level. I was one of the staff of the division STEP Competition and Conferen
ce â elementary level. I was also a contest administrator on Project Proposal Making
and won first place in the said skill. As a contest administrator in the STEP-R
SDC in Project Proposal, I also won as the first place in the said skill which I
represented region X to the STEP-NSDC at Davao City.
I contributed to the success of the Division Seminar on Updates in Teaching Tech
nology and Livelihood Education as a demonstration teacher and on the Hands on T
raining Skills for Teachers of Edukasyong Pantahanan at Pangkabuhayan as a resou
rce speaker and disseminated to the whole division of Iligan City on how to make
a STEP based Project Proposal in Animal Production.
With all the reasons stated above, it is hoped that we conscientiously p
rovide valuable services and inspiration to others towards higher and stronger m
ultifarious achievements when the compelling needs of our heart intersect with t
he compelling needs of our organization. More than that, our sense of responsibi
lity as public servant urges us to be magnanimous with efforts and the use of re
sources and skills in order to promote a broaden common vision.
I know that with Godâ s presence, we can achieve all our aspirations, execute
mission, and realize our dreams in developing our students talents, skills and
leadership abilities in inculcating good work value for a world class competitiv
eness and for national productivity as well. It is our commitment and our involv
ement.
