I. Divide the class into five (5) groups. The members of the group should be comfortably working with
each other as such group will be the permanent group in the research output in Practical Research
3.
II. The maximum number of members in a group is 10. The minimum is 7.
III. Accomplish the task below by brainstorming. Each group should have leader/facilitator and a
secretary.
IV. Beside the name list, rate oneself (from 0 to 100%) according to the degree of help rendered in the
group. The leader must verify by counter signing the ratings.
Example: Rivera, Fatima A. – 100% (leader’s signature here)
TASK! Come up with 10 different titles of research. Classify them to according to the research designs we
have discussed. Choose only quantitative research titles. Be intelligent enough to choose titles because one
of these maybe the title for your research output for this year.

I. MATCHING TYPE. Identify by matching what discipline the given research title is related to. Match item
in Column A with those of Column B. Place the letter of the correct answer on the space provided
before the number in Column A. Answers may be repeated.

II. Choose five (5) of the above research titles. Explain briefly how quantitative research was used for it.
Use the back side of this page as an answer sheet.
I. The class will form a group with five (5) members. Using the information, they brought (homework),
they will brainstorm on the different kinds of variables and their use in quantitative research.
II. The members will assign a group leader and a secretary.
III. In the name list above, each one should rate himself/herself according to the degree of help
rendered in the group. This includes bringing of printed material, ability to initiate discussion and over-
all cooperation. Use the rating scale of 0 -100%. The group leader will verify the rating by counter
signing.
Example: Rivera, Fatima A. –100% (leader signs here)

A. Identify what is being asked in each number. Write your answer after the statement. Choose answer from the
box below.
variable dependent independent control continuous intervening
_________________________1. It refers to the characteristics that have two or more mutually exclusive values or
properties.
_________________________2. Variables that represent categories that cannot be ordered in any particular way.
_________________________3. Special kind of independent variables that are measured in a study because they
potentially influence the dependent variable.
_________________________4. Variables that have values that lie along an evenly dispersed range of numbers
when there is an absolute zero, as opposed to the net worth, which can have a negative debt-to-income ratio-
level variable.
_________________________5. Kind of variable that are not actually measured or observed in a study. They exist
but their influence cannot be directly detected in a study.
_________________________6. It “stands between” the independent and dependent variable, and they show the
effects of the independent variable on the dependent variable.
_________________________7. Variables that represent categories that can be ordered from greatest to smallest.
_________________________8. Kind of variable that probably cause, influence, or effect outcomes. They are
variably called treatment, manipulated, antecedent or predictor variables.
_________________________9. Variables that depend on the independent variables, they are the outcomes of
results of the influence of the independent variable.
_________________________10. Variables that have values that lie along an evenly dispersed range of numbers.
B. Identify the kind of variables depicted by each of the following variables. Write I for Interval, N for Nominal, R
for Ratio and O for Ordinal. Write the letters on the space provided before the number.
_________1. Military title
_________2. Temperature in degree Celsius
_________3. Birthplace
_________4. Year level
_________5. Favorite type of music
_________6. Clothing such as hat, shirt, shoes
_________7. A score in 5-item quiz in Biology
_________8. Feeling for today
_________9. Means of transportation
_________ 10. How internet is used at home
_________11. Freshman, Sophomore
_________12. Person’s net worth
_________13. Male or female
_________14. 1, 2, 3, 4, 5
_________15. Political affiliation
C. Recognize the variables and the constant in the research title presented below. Determine the independent
and dependent variable; then determine whether discrete or continuous variable.
Example: The Relationship of Study Habits and Academic Performance of SLU-LSHS Students
