Chapter 1
INTRODUCTION
This chapter contains the rational for choosing the topic of the project and illustrates the outline
on what are the expected outputs in the project. Also what the scope and the limitation that we
faced during the project.

1.1 Background of the Project

Home without proper security measures in place are particularly more vulnerable. But it is easy
to avoid home break-ins by using a simple solution like the electronic door lock, the entry door of
your house can be unlocked only by entering a pre-decided password, which helps to prevent
unauthorized unlocking. The advantages of an electric lock connected to an access control system
include: key control, where keys can be added and removed without re-keying the lock cylinder;
fine access control, where time and place are factors; and transaction logging, where activity is
recorded.The circuit is built around dual J-K flip-flop 74LS73 (IC3 and IC4), regulators 7812 and
7805 (IC1 and IC2, respectively), 555 timer (IC6) and a few other components.

1.2 Statement of the Problem

Home burglary incidents are on the rise. Homes without proper security measures in place are
particularly more vulnerable. But it is easy to avoid home break-ins by using a simple solution like
the electronic door lock.

1.3 Objectives of the Project

This project is to implement and connect the circuit of the electronic door lock of your house
which can be unlocked only by entering a pre-decided password, which to prevent unauthorized
unlocking.

i. If the user enter the right password the door will be unlock.

ii. If the users enter the wrong password will be lock.

iii. If the users enter the password more than three times the alarm bell.

iv. The user can see who is coming before opening the lock by camera.

1.4Project Scope and limitations
Scope of the project

Limitations
Searching about suitable design for the project and how we come start working. Also to find some
component. Also we use many program to draw the circuit but we don’t found the entire component in
the programs.

1.5Definition of terms
Transistor:
Is a three terminal semiconductor device used for signal amplification and also in switching
between two states (0 and 1). It formed of two p-njunctions (n-p-n, p-n-p). Where (n) is the
negative side and (p) is the positive side. We used two transistors (BC547) in our project.

Capacitor:
It is a passive two-terminal electric component used in charge and discharge of electric charges. It
made up of aluminum. The capacitor contain of two electrical conductor separated by insulating
layer. It possesses polarity. Is also used in timing circuit depend on the charge and discharge and
has many other uses.

Resistor:
It is physical property characteristic of metallic conductors in electrical circuit. Defined as the
ability to resist the passage of electric current in the materials. Also, it has a two-terminal that used
resist and to control the electric current in the circuit and its produce a voltage drop between its
terminals. Also, its used to protect the other components in the circuit.

555timer:
A 555 timer is a type of integrated circuit, also known as a chip, which extremely popular for a
variety of purposes. Also, it’s a device that controls different modes of on/off states in electrical
system. Its main use as a timer which used to construct this project.

Regulators:
Voltage regulators control the output of the plant. In an electric power distribution system, voltage
regulators may be installed at a substation or along distribution lines so that all customers receive
steady voltage independent of how much power is drawn from the line.

J-K flip-flop:
In electronics, a flip-flop or latch is a circuit that has two stable states and can be used to store state
information. Flip-flops and latches are used as data storage elements. Such data storage can be
used for storage of state, and such a circuit is described as sequential logic.

H-bridge driver:
The H Bridge with a DC supply will generate a square wave voltage waveform across the load. For
a purely inductive load, the current waveform would be a triangle wave, with its peak depending
on the inductance, switching frequency, and input voltage.

LEDs:
11
A LED lamp is a light-emitting diode (LED) product that is assembled into a lamp (or light bulb)
for use in lighting fixtures. LED chips need controlled direct current (DC) electrical power; an
appropriate power supply is needed. LEDs are adversely affected by high temperature, so LED
lamps typically include heat dissipation elements such as heat sinks and cooling fins.

4x5 keypad:
4X5 Matrix Keypad Support The VE Module supports a 4x5 keypad that can be controlled using
functions built into the VE-C language. When the keypad is scanned, the columns are driven
(active low, saved and restored. The keypad I/O pin outs are as follows: S1, S2, S3, and S4...

DC motor:
A DC motor is a mechanically commutated electric motor powered from direct current (DC). The
stator is stationary in space by definition and therefore the current in the rotor is switched by the
commentator to also be stationary in space. This is how the relative angle between the stator and
rotor magnetic flux is maintained near 90 degrees, which generates the maximum torque.

Transformer:
A transformer is a static electrical device that transfers energy by inductive coupling between its
winding circuits. A varying current in the primary winding creates a varying magnetic flux in the
transformer's core and thus a varying magnetic flux through the secondary winding. This varying
magnetic flux induces a varying electromotive force (emf) or voltage in the secondary winding.
Transformers can be used to vary the relative voltage of circuits or isolate them, or both.

IMPLEMENTATION AND EVALUATION

20
(Electronic Door Lock)
Introduction
This chapter includes the circuit diagram operation, the software program that use it to test the
circuit if it work or not, also, the connected circuit in the breadboard, the implemented project
and the results of the project.

4.1 Schematic diagram

Figure 13: circuit diagram

Explain the project in detail:

Our project is circuit of electronic door lock, the circuit is built around dual J-K flip-flop
74LS73 (IC3 and IC4), regulators 7812 and 7805 (IC1 and IC2, respectively), 555 timer (IC6)
and a few other component. The circuit requires 12v for driving motor M1 and 5v for powering
rest of circuit. The mains power supply is stepped down to 15v, 500mv by transformer. This
stepped-down AC voltage is rectified by bridge rectifier BR1 and filtered by

Capacitor C1 before it is fed to IC1. Regulator IC1 provides regulated 12v DC supply, which is
further fed to IC2 to get 5v supply. The glowing of LED1 indicates presence of power in the
circuit. The door opens when switches S1 through S4 are sequentially pressed. The password is

21
recognized using three flip-flops and transistor T2 flip-flop FF2 of IC3 is operated in toggle
mode by making 12=K2=1 (high). When S1, is pressed ground pulse

4.2 System Simulation

We didn’t find appropriate program that contains all of the components.

4.3 System Testing

4.4 System implementation and prototyping

The Final system will be implemented under almost real conditions.
Snapshots need to be taken for the whole system operation (hardware
projects). All the snapshots should be described in detail.
4.5 Evaluation
We faced some of technical problem when we were worked on this project. The biggest and
important problem was in the design of the circuit. That’s why we make a change in the design
and start with the new design. Also some of the components were non-existent and we take time
to found it.

Chapter 5

CONCLUSIONS AND RECOMMENDATIONS
This chapter cover a briefly summarize for the idea of our project and what we recommend of
improve the project.

This project untitled: Electronic Door Lock, which its use to lock and unlock the door. Homes
without proper security measures in place are particularly more vulnerable. But it is easy to avoid
home break-ins by using a simple solution like the electronic door lock. Project has been
implemented and circuit is working successfully. This project help to get an excellent experience
where learn more about the electronic components and its work. Also this project helps to get
new idea to fit circuit and use it successfully in other situation.

The most important thing to check the ingredients if they are available before starting work.
Moreover, it is must to see if each element works properly, as is the case in any electronic project
that should be done before welding components. All these make the work of a successful project.

In general, this project is very effective and efficient way to it serves user of the electronic door
lock.Is achieved all the objectives of the project and project works well.

This project is that it has not fully completed we can develop this project more in the future we
can develop a technical which instead of pressing the button to make it touch control or by using
remote controller and also we can benefit more people experts in electronics by we put new idea.

APPENDIX

Objectives of electronic door:

24
Pick-proof: Because there is no place for a key with these locks, the prevent break-
ins because burglars are unable to pick or ‘bump’ the lock. Criminals methods of
breaking and entering are improving and the majority of criminals can pick an
ordinary key lock.
- NO MORE KEYS!: You won’t have to carry around a large set of keys and they
will be less likely to be lost or stolen. Also, if you are a landlord, you don’t have to
give residents keys or replace them if they lose them.
- Control: In a company building, you can control and restrict who goes into what
part of the building. Also residents and landlords of apartments and flat, can
control who can enter their room with one PIN code and it reduces the risk of
anything getting stolen. It is incredibly easy to change the PIN code whenever you
like. The combination door locks from The Workplace Depot have over 8,000
possible code combinations with a simple code change facility.
- Aesthetically Pleasing: Door locks can come in a range of stylish colors that look
smart and professional. At The Workplace Depot, we sell mechanical digital door
locks in a choice of 3 colors, brass, chrome and satin chrome.
- Perfect for the elderly or disabled: The extra investment into a door lock could
bring massive advantages to those who are unable to get to the door quickly and/or
who struggle with keys.
