CALCULATIONS

For this section, several calculations are necessary as proves that the design is working other
than perform the design can be function through simulations. However, the simulations
somehow still need to have inputs that are from the calculations. The whole scenario of the
drum cleaner is visualized in the figure below as free body diagram.

From the figure on the left is the current situations whereas on the right side of the figure is
the free body diagram based on the situations on the left. Firstly, the force of spring needs to
be determined and thus different range of spring constant are prepared to find the maximum
force exerted on the spring at particular displacements. The displacements which is the
elongations of the spring is assume at 0.02 m.

The spring constant can be calculated by using following formula:

D = Outer diameter of spring (m)
G = Shear modulus of material (GPa)
