Nigerian Example
Nigerian Economy
Strengths Weaknesses

• Substantial hydrocarbon • Heavy dependence on oil

resources revenues (90% of exports, 20% of GDP,
80% of fiscal revenues)
• Considerable agricultural
potential • Limited refining capacity
leading to burdensome imports
• Most populous African country
• Poor infrastructure
• Low external debt
• Ethnic and religious tensions
• Banking sector largely
consolidated thanks to reform • Corruption and insecurity
hamper business environment
launched in 2009
• Unemployment, poverty,
inadequate health and
education systems.

GHANA
Gas Related Discoveries in Ghana

• Ghana has an anticipated Gas reserve of about 6.4 TCF made up of

2.2TCF of associated gas and 4.2TCF of non-associated gas.

• Some gas related gas discoveries include Tweneboa-Enyenra-Ntomme

Complex, Sankofa, Dzata, Teak, Paradise, Gye Nyame, Hickory North,
Almond, Beech, Pecan

• The Jubilee Field produces an average of 120MMscfd of associated gas per

day. Approximately 10MMscfd is used to as fuel for the production

CONECTIONS
Cameroon
• Clarke Energy is the authorised distributor and service partner for GE’s
Jenbacher gas engine in Cameroon. Clarke Energy is committed to
delivering high-quality installations and to providing reliable, accountable,
long term maintenance support for your generation equipment.

• Guinness Cameroon is already grid gas connected and has considerable

experience now of off grid electricity production

• Clarke Energy has proposed a Co-Generation system to Guinness

Cameroon to produce Electricity, Steam and Hot Water from on site
electricity generation
Kenya
• Pioneering development for biogas in Kenya – First biogas engines
supplied by Clarke Energy and GE Power & Water into Sub-Saharan Africa.

• Waste to power – Biogas will be produced from an agricultural anaerobic

digester processing wastes to give power and fertilizer.

• Renewable & sustainable power – 2.4MW of renewable electricity to be

produced in rural Kenya providing power to the local farm and surrounding
area, enough to power 5-6,000 typical homes. The engines will operate in a
combined heat and power (CHP) configuration increasing the overall plant
efficiency, through the recovery of heat which will displace diesel normally
used in the heating of greenhouses at the farm.
Lake Naivasha Kenya
South Africa
• Clarke Energy is the authorised distributor and service provider for GE’s
Jenbacher gas engine in South Africa. Formed from the acquisition of
Agaricus Trading (Pty) Ltd and GE’s Jenbacher South African Service
business in 2013 Clarke Energy provides support to southern Africa from
service and sales offices in Kwa-Zulu Natal and Johannesburg.

• There is significant potential for natural gas-based cogeneration and

trigeneration. Key South African names including MTN and ABSA Towers
have opted for the benefits of high efficiency gas engine based-power

• The South African gas to power market is unique thanks to the significant
base of industrial furnaces. Jenbacher gas engines have been successfully
installed at a number of ferro-metal and calcium carbide plants leading to
the country being a centre of significant knowledge in the installation and
maintenance of gas engines operating on furnace gas
South Africa
Mozambique
• Clarke Energy is the authorised distributor and service provider for GE’s
Jenbacher gas engine in Mozambique.

• Clarke Energy’s ethos is one of aftersales support; delivering high levels of

equipment availability through the development of a strong local service
presence with in-country parts supply.

• Mozambique has some of the largest deposits of natural gas in Africa. The
country also has a significant demand for power. Natural gas as a source of
power is a logical solution. Jenbacher gas engines can be utilised both for
captive power plants for industry and independent power producer stations

• Clarke Energy currently serves Mozambique from its South African Hub
