● Students will be able to define ‘noun’ and identity in a sentence
● Students will be able to define ‘verb’ and identify in a sentence
● Students will be able to define ‘adjective’ and identify in a sentence

ELAGSE3L1:
Demonstrate command of the conventions of Standard English grammar and usage when writing
or speaking.
● Explain the function of nouns, pronouns, verbs, adjectives, and adverbs in general
and their functions in particular sentences.

● 5 randomly generated sentences

6. Instructional Procedures
· Introduction
● Display a sentence on the board.
● Inform students that in a sentence there are different parts of speech that identify noun,
verb, adjective
● Write on the board “My spotted white dog Russel barked when a German Shepard
walked by.”
· Developmental
● Discuss the different parts of speech and give examples for each
○ Discuss that a noun is a person, place, animal, or a thing
○ Discuss that a verb is an action; jumped, skipped, ran, walked- “It’s what you do”
○ Discuss what an adjective is: describes a noun: cold, hot, angry, stripped
● Write definitions on the board, students copy
● Display pictures on Smartboard and as a class identify the nouns, verbs, adjectives from
the picture
○ Have students write one sentence about each picture- continue until 5 sentences
are written
○ Students will return to sentences later
● Return to sentence on the board “My spotted white dog Russel barked when a German
Shepard walked by.”
○ Discuss and identify all parts of speech in sentence for practice
■ Underline noun in blue
■ Underline verb in red
■ Underline adjective in green
● Students will return to the 5 sentences they wrote from the pictures and identify the parts
of speech
○ Underline noun in blue
○ Underline verb in red
○ Underline adjective in green
● Teacher is observing and circulating around room, checking work, offering help where
needed

· Conclusion
● Teacher has already prepared 5 sentences
○ Display sentences on the board
○ Together the class and teacher will identify all parts of speech in the sentences on
the SmartBoard

7. Addressing Learners’ Diverse Needs


Higher Learners: Have students identify proper nouns, pronouns, prepositions, and conjunctions-
when applicable
Lower Learners: Provide notes about noun, adjective, and verb. Give examples of each in color
coordination

8. Formative/Summative Assessment
Formative:
● Collect student sentences and check for understandind
● Assign homework where students must pick ten sentences from a book and identify the
noun, adjective, and verb in the sentence.
Summative:
● Test on parts of speech from selected paragraph
○ Underline noun in blue
○ Underline verb in red
○ Underline adjective in greenen paragraph
