PROPOSAL OF THE CHEMECAR

COMPETITION

Chem-E Car is an engineering design competition organized by university of Tehran. Teams

must design and build a shoebox-sized car which is powered by chemical reactions. The car
must be able to travel 15-30 m while carrying a load of 0-500 mL of water. Teams are judged
on safety, creativity, and car performance. The top teams of each regional competition go to
the national competition, which is held in conjunction with the national AIChE Meeting.

Fortunately, during the recent years, this competition has been widely welcomed by students
around the world.

Participants should design cars that are not larger than a certain size and can traverse the
amount of load in a distance that informed shortly before the race.

The driving force of these cars should be a chemical that does not contaminate the
environment and does not produce any visible gas or liquid. Also, commercial batteries are not
used in their manufacture
•The goal of the competition is to permit the participation for students in chemical
engineering to design and build a shoebox-sized car that is powered and stopped by chemical
reactions, also there are other objectives such as:

1- To provide chemical engineering students with the opportunity to participate in a team-

oriented hands-on design and construction of a small chemical powered model car

2 -To demonstrate the ability to safely control a chemical reaction by changing a chemical
reactant(s)

3 -To encourage students to become actively involved in their professional society

4- To increase awareness of the chemical engineering discipline among the general public,
industry leaders, educators and other students.

5-To increase the scientific and intellectual powers of students through the use of chemical
science

•A brief description about the competition the students should prepare a car that can: 1) carry
a maximum load of 500 grams and 2) travel any distance between 15 and 30 meters. The
weight of the payload and the distance are randomly chosen one hour before the start of the
competition. The goal is to stop exactly at the randomly chosen distance. Careful testing and
calibration are keys to landing directly on the mark.

•A look at the benefits of this competition:

1- Developing engineering skills and practices outside of the classroom

2- Developing relationships between faculty, staff and students

3-According to our statistics and research, we are the first university in the Kurdistan Region
and the second university all over the Iraq country after the Baghdad’s university to participate
in this competition.

4-By contributing in this competition allows staff to discover the superior and hidden talent of
students in the field of science at the college level

5- Participating in this competition gets opportunity to other students at the koya university to
participate in this competition year by year and gain top levels.

6- Getting the first position in this competition allows us to take part in the national
championships which is held with national AICHE meeting

•This annual competition will be held at the University of Tehran on 28th of October, each team
consists of two- four students with one supervisor, The selection of the participants will be
based on the testimonials received and on the student’s performance,Gender balance will be
also taken into account, the participants should be present at the host university at least one
week before the competition

•since I lived in Iran country for years so I have this ability to speak Persian language very well,
which will help us to mingle and communicate with local easily

Thus, kindly we ask you to support us and cover the cost of building the materials for this
machine

This competition sponsored by Iranian association of chemical engineers, university of Tehran

and Technical faculty,university of Tehran

I would like to strongly thank you all for reading my proposal
