Abstract for Boeing IIT National Aeromodelling Competition

Due to the limited accommodation facilities, teams will be shortlisted for

accommodation based on the following abstract provided by the team.
Guidelines for the submission of the abstract are as follows: Rename the .doc/.docx
file as TeamID.doc or TeamID.docx (example: BO1001.doc/BO1001.docx where FR1001
will represent the respective Registration code (or Team code or Team id)) and
email the file to boeing@techfest.org strictly before 5th December 2017. The format
for naming the file has to be strictly followed. Otherwise your abstract may
not get accepted.
YOU NEED TO SUBMIT THE ABSTRACT IN PDF FORMAT (TeamID.pdf) Please fill in
the information in the sections mentioned below.
Kindly do not exceed the word limit mentioned in respective sections.
Support your write up with google drive link of images and videos of your
plane. Note that even photos of incomplete plane may be attached and if it is not
at all possible to include the pictures then try and integrate 2D plans/CAD
drawings in the abstract.
This information shall be considered valuable for deciding Design /
Innovation prizes. The abstract of your plane will be helpful everywhere in future
as an evidence of your hard-work, along with determining your position for the
competition. So please pay adequate attention to it.

Please fill in the following details:-

Team ID: BO1421
Team Leaders name: Parth Gabani
Email Address: parth.gabani@somaiya.edu
Contact Number: +91 9820720389
Frequency of Remote Control Panel: 2.4GHz

The details of the abstract will remain confidential with organizers of Techfest
Fill in the information about your plane in the respective sections as mentioned
below:
1. Describe the Plane design with a diagram, with pictures taken in the course
of development of aircraft (of the plane you are building, attach a .jpeg image
with the e-mail) or a picture of actual plane (if it is ready, attach a .jpeg image
with the email) or both.

The model is built using Poplar Plywood, Depron foam, coroplast and Covered using
adhesive tapes. The plane has a conventional design with a single vertical tail and
a single horizontal tail. It has a wingspan 1200mm which includes ribs made of
coroplast and covered with coroplast. The fuselage was made from coroplast having a
length of 800mm.
Horizontal tail is made of coroplast having a length of 340mm and has a chord
length of 90mm. The vertical tail also made of coroplast having base chord length
of 150mm and tip chord of 90mm.
2. Detail out the motors and other components you have used to throttle the
glider for the first minute of flight. Also explain the take-off mechanism in
brief.

The glider was designed to be of 900gms and supposed to glide at a speed of 11ms/s.

In order to meet the requirements, a 1000kV Brushless DC motor was used.To support
the current requirements a 1250mAH 30C 11.1V 3S LiPo battery of 86gms was used. 18A
Avionic Electronic Speed Controller of 32gms is also used in the circuit. Servo
motors used for controlling the control surfaces also in the payload dropping
mechanism. Tower pro 9gm Metal gear MG90S servo is used. 10x4.5 Plastic Propeller
(APC Style) is used to propel the plane.
Take off will be a hand launch system in which one of the team members will hold
the plane at an angle of approximately 5-10 degrees. When the motor will reach the
required speed, he/she will release the plane in the specified direction. Control
surfaces viz. Horizontal tail and ailerons will be controlled by the pilot to
maintain the glider at the specified level.

3. Explain the mechanisms used in the plane maneuvering and also list the type
of components you have used.
