The Shaolin Traditional Kung Fu

The Shaolin Traditional Kung Fu Series 6 – Shaolin Eight Step Interlink Quan

Shaolin Eight Step Interlink Quan consist of two sections executed with eight steps, seven methods
of fists, three methods of palms, four methods of leg and two methods of catching hold, one defensive
posture and one ready posture and two repeat postures. This routine is short, quick, with clear
attacking and defending and special change methods, has twenty two changes in eight steps, and so
we can see how strict its skill is.

The formulas verse:

1- Extend hands as the crane stretches its head.


2- Eagle’s eyes and ape’s spirit are very vigorous.
3- Lead hand and then white snake spits its tongue, Punch straight and enter from side with
skillful method.
4- Lift the knee of front leg as if the cold chook step, the form send from the back to pierce
with palm.
5- Step forward and pull back to strike the heart with cannon.
6- Cooperate the quick and slow movements as the waves.
7- Throw and slap continuously as the chook fighting.
8- Releasing power from the body as lion roaring.
9- Grab and pull backward to kick cross with foot.
10- Land the foot and strike to heart with the palm.
11- Hook to throw and chop to mountain with palm.
12- Stand upright and push the mountain with palms.
13- Step back to jump and circle and pull with hand.
14- Three folds many times as crane stretch its neck, these skills are extractive and wonderful.
15- Five defending and eight breaks hide in it.
16- Cover and chop the mountain as a thunder.
17- Follow in with palm chopping continuously.
18- Fill hand with middle fist with body agility.
19- Lift the knee to jump as chasing waves.
20- Turn body and circle and pull with hand, Close hands let the stance to return original.
Section One Step-by-step explanation:

Preparatory Posture: Stand naturally at attention. Step the left foot to the left and hold both fits
to sides of waist.

Form 1 Thrust Both Fists:


Step the left foot forward into a bow stance, thrust both fists horizontally forward.

Form 2 Interlink Palms:


Stamp the right foot down and lift the left foot, cross both hands and block up, separate both
hands above the head, out then hold hands to sides of waist. Step the left foot forward into a
bow stance, thrust both palms forward, right first, left after.

Form 3 Cut Hand and Lock Throat:


Shift the center of gravity back into a half horse stance, turn the left wrist to press down with
the left palm. Change the right palm into - shape palm and push forward over the left palm,
form into a bow stance.

Form 4 Kick Toward to Head with Foot:


Change the right palm into a fist and hold to side of waist. Bend the left arm at elbow to block
up with palm and kick forward with heel.

Form 5 Thrust Fist in Horse Stance:


Land the right foot into a horse stance, hold the left hand to side of waist, and thrust the right
fist horizontally to the right.

Form 6 Linked Pearls Cannon:


Step the left foot forward into a bow stance, thrust the left, right and left fists for three times.

Form 7 Ride Dragon Inversely:


Turn the body to the right into a right bow stance, thrust the right fist horizontally.

Form 8 Body-wrapping Hammer:


Swing the left fist forward, up, backward and down, then hold to side of waist, turn the body to
the left and form a bow stance. Swing right fist to pound down to the front with arm straight.

Form 9 Block and push in Horse Stance:


Turn the body to the right and form a horse stance, block up with the right fist and thrust the left
fist horizontally.
Section Two Step-by-step explanation:

Form 10 Chen Xiang Pushes the Mountain:


Turn the body to the right. Stamp the right foot and lift the left foot, Change both fists into
palms and press them over the head down to front, land the left foot forward into a bow stance,
and push both palms forward.

Form 11 Hook Hands and Toes Kick:


Rotate both hands inward into hooks and swing backward, take a toes kick forward with the
right foot.

Form 12 Qin Na Posture:


Change both hands into palms. Put the left palm in front of right shoulder, turn the right palm
outward and lift the right leg forward with knee bent. Grab with the left palm and clench into a
fist and hold to side of waist, turn the right wrist to press the right palm down, straighten the
right leg and sweep backward at the same time.

Form 13 Arrow-shooting Posture:


Change into right bow stance, change the right hand into a fist and block out, and draw in back
to side of waist, and thrust the left fist forward.

Form 14 Diagonal Flying Posture:


Draw the right foot to press to behind the left knee and bend the left leg to squat down. Change
both fists into palms and insert the right palm to under the left armpit. Open the right foot into a
bow stance, and separate both palms apart.

Form 15 Slap Cross Foot:


Hold the left fist to side of waist, kick up with the left foot, swing the right hand back, up and
forward in a circle and slap the instep of left foot.

Form 16 Strike Ear with Single Fist:


Land the left foot into a horse stance, swing the left fist transversely forward, change the right
palm into a fist and swing to the back.

Form 17 Tiger Draws out The Heart:


Turn the body to the left and form a bow stance, uppercut to front with the right fist, and swing
the left fist horizontally backward.

Form 18 Golden Cock Stands on One Leg:


Lower the weight and form a crouch stance, swing both palms down to the right with palm
centers facing each other. Lift the left knee up, swing the right palm to above the head and put
the left palm to front of right chest with fingers up.
Form 19 Slap Face with Foot:
Land the left foot, kick up with the right foot and swing inward, slap the inside of right foot with
the left palm, change the right palm into a fist and hold to side of waist.

Form 20 Single Palm Pushes the Stele:


Land the right foot backward and form a bow stance, change the left palm into a hook and
swing backward, change the left fist into a palm and push forward.

Form 21 Left and Right Cannon:


Turn the body to the right and form a horse stance, change both hands into fists and hold to
sides of waist. Turn the body and form a bow stance, thrust both fists horizontally to the front.
Turn the body and form a horse stance, both fists to sides of waist. Turn the body to the left
and form a bow stance, thrust both fists horizontally forward.

Form 22 Pi pa Posture:
Draw the left foot back with toes on the ground. Change both fists into palms and swing down
and back. Lift the left foot and land into an empty stance, swing both palms up, down to front of
chest with fingers up.

Closing Form:
Draw the left foot back and put the feet together, change both palms into fists and hold to sides
of waist. Stand at attention.
