the corner, with a special message form the government’s
youth structures (page 4). Given the public service strikes
and time lost during the Soccer World Cup, it may prove to
be nerve wracking for some. Liuckily the teachers’ unions
decided this week not to resume striking.

Storm wreaks havoc

A storm hit Mokutung village near Echo Caves on Monday
afternoon this week. According to residents little rain fell, but
the wind was ferocious, taking the roofs of several houses with
it. The roof of a church was also taken off by the wind (bottom
photograph), but villagers already reapaired it when Platinum
Gazette visited on Wednesday. The worst hit house was that of
the Masuku family, near the church. The roofs of seven rooms
in the house was blown off and the roof covering plates landed
in the vegetable garden. According to Ms Letta Masuku
(photograph right) two of the eight people living in the house,
are disabled, one is blind and the other cannot walk. By
Wednesday this house was still badly in need of repair. Just as
Platinum Gazette started to leave, a representative of the
Disaster Management section of the Greater Tubatse
Municipality, Mr Elias Boshego (photograph bottom left)
arrived at the scene to assess the damage. It seems that part of
the problem with the house’s roof is that the rafters were
attacked by termites, making it easy for the wind to pull out the
screws holding the roof plates.
As far as could be determined damage to other property in the
village was not that severe.

In the past week two ATM’s were targeted by robbers. Last week the ATM at the

Bauba Platinum has big plans Tubatse Chrome Festival

Bauba Platinum recently listed on the JSE and has big plans for the futurewe. Bauba Platinum was created
through the reverse listing of a 60% interest in Bauba A Hlabirwa Mining Investments (the Bauba Project). Programme for next weekend
The listing marked a key milestone in the transformation of the company.
Bauba’s immediate business objective is the exploration, evaluation and development of the Bauba Project, a
high quality Platinum Group Metals (PGMs) resource base located on the Eastern Limb of the Bushveld
Complex, in the heart of the world’s best-known platinum neighbourhood. The project, which extends over
approximately 12,700 hectares, is strategically located down-dip from Modikwa and Marula platinum mines.
In order to give full effect to the development of the business imperative offered by the Bauba Project, the
company has realigned itself to optimise shareholder value, which included listing on the Main Board of the
JSE, a change in name (to Bauba Platinum Limited) to reflect the core business and a reconstituted Board of
Directors.
An introductory capital raising earlier in the year was completed and the proceeds are funding the initial
exploration drilling programme and scoping study, as well as the working capital.
The exploration programme, which began in April this year, will determine the nature and extent of the PGM
mineralisation.
Initial drill results have exceeded expectations, with the first two boreholes successfully intersecting the
Merensky Reef and confirming the anticipated mineralisation. These results provide a solid base from which
the company can, with confidence,
accelerate the drilling programme
and evaluations.

There are opportunities available in various sections of
economy, agriculture for example. Unfortunately many young
people do are not willing to put in the hard work farming
requires, but we need to address the food security challenges
in the province”.
What are you currently doing employment wise?
“I am the caretaker/chairperson of the Youth Commission
in Limpopo”.
How did you become a commissioner (chairperson)?
“I was previously involved in the Youth Council and
decided to apply for the position of Youth Commissioner
when the opportunity arose. I was previously the secretary
of the Youth Council in Sekhukhune. I was started working
as the chairman of the Youth Commission in August 2010”.

What does the Youth Commission do? Are you married? Any kids perhaps?

What is your advice to young people who aspire to become a
chairperson like you?
“Young people must involve themselves in politics from an early
age. Participate actively without expectation of reward. Involve
yourself because you want to make a difference, not because you
want to become a chairperson. Put more effort into whatever job
you are given. Excel where you are, with whatever responsibility
you are given. Display commitment and put all your energy into it”.
How can young people reach your office for assistance?
“They can call 015-287 6632 or visit their local Municipality and
speak to the Youth Officers there. The Youth Officers will link them
up with us”.
“I give the overall political direction to the Youth Commission.
Our programmes are directed at the Youth and young people.
We try to address the challenges such as skills shortages. We
and myself actively try to mobilise our partners in the private
sector to support the programmes we initiate to help young
people”.
Is the Youth Commission the same as the NYDA?
“No, it is not. The NYDA is bringing together the programmes
addressing skills and knowledge with the funding that is
channelled through the Umsombovu Youth Fund. The NYDA
ensures integrated development while the Youth Commission
assist in applications for funding and special programmes for
skills and education”.
“No, not married. I have a little boy called Nthati”.
What is your life beyond the office? What do you get up
to?
“It depends. I often attend government functions, weddings
or parties, but when I am at home I like to watch TV, listen to
music and read the newspapers and political material”.
Where is home and what is your favourite food?
“Home is both in Polokwane and the village of my birth. I will
always return to Ga-Tisane when I can. Morogo is my
favourite”.

What is your view about young people who are not active in

Marathon will have a totally new look this
year.
They’ve combined forces with the mines in
the area to create a newly recognised
marathon called the Eastern Lim Mines
Executive Mayor’s Marathon.
Both local and provincial clubs will
participate in the event which is organised
in conjuction with Limpopo Athletics.
The Marathon will start at Modikwa
Platinum Mine and end at Steelpoort
Academy.
The date for the race is 23 October 2010
and athletes can still enter.
One of the major draw cards for many

Burgersfort United Football Club will be
hosting a tournament on Saturday and
Sunday. During the day on Saturday six
junior teams will battle it out to determine
the winners. It will be mostly local teams
competing, but Lydenburg’s juniors be
participating. In the late afternoon and
evening until about 10:00 the seniors will
start their battle for best.
On Sunday the men will continue their
knockout rounds to eventually play in the
final which is planned to start at about
15:00.
In the senior category, there will also be
local teams as well as a few visiting teams,
including a team from Lydenburg.
The tournament is now in its second year
and has grown tremendously. It will again
take place at the grounds of Laerskool
Burgersfort.
There will be a festive atmosphere and the
public is invited to come and support the
teams. There will be food and other stalls
and jumping castles for the children.
The management of Burgersfort United FC
has invited all soccer enthusiasts to join
them on the weekend and especially for the
finals on Sunday.
The juniors of Burgersfort United during
their practice on Wednesday.

The netball games did not all get finiched
due to poor light, but the available score
