In this section I will review how to navigate the Earth and Human Activity, lesson plans, and
assessments.
Lets begin with the Earth and Human Activity home page. Please locate the tool bar on top of the
page and either click or scroll over it to see the “Home Page”. Click the Home page. This should
lead you to the first page of this DUP. This page describes the unit summary, standards, big ideas
and questions, and student learning objectives.
The Unit Plan was designed to help students develop their knowledge of natural resources,
natural hazards, and natural disasters! In this Unit Plan we will delve into the various ways that
human impact the environment and understand the meaning of anthropogenic impacts. Students
will work individually and collaboratively to create their own ideas to address environmental
sustainability and how to reduce their carbon footprint and consumption of natural resources.
Next are the standards. In these lessons we will meet Discipline Standards: HS-ESS3-1, HS-
ESS3-2, and HS-ESS3-3. For the California Common Core State Standards, the standards meet
include: RST.11-12.1, RST.11-12-8, and WHST.9-12.2.a-e. Please read more or visit the
California State Standards link located on the Unit Resources page.
The big ideas and questions that student should remember and consider throughout the lesson
include
● What are natural resources?
● What are Ecological or Carbon Footprints?
● How have humans influenced or affected the abundance and diversity of Earth’s natural
resources?
● What resources do you use that come from the earth?
● How have you impacted the Earth?
● What does it mean to “reduce, reuse, recycle”?
Next locate the tool bar on top of the page and either click or scroll over it to see the “Lesson 2
page”. Click Lesson 2: webercuse/ipad lesson. This should lead you to the fourth page of this
DUP.
In this lesson students will download the Lesson 2 Webercise: Our carbon footprint and complete
the answers as they review each website.
Let’s begin lesson 3. Please locate the tool bar on top of the page and either click or scroll over it
to see the “Lesson 3 page”. Click Lesson 3: graphic organizer. This should lead you to the fifth
page of this DUP.
In this lesson students will download the Graphic Organizer, read the directions, read the
assignment from Newsela and complete this note-taking strategy. For further instructions please
read the assignment directions carefully, the sample notes, and the rubric.
Now that we have reviewed the lessons, let’s access the assessments. Please locate the tool bar
on top of the page and either click or scroll over it to see the “assessments page”. Click
assessments. This should lead you to the second page of this DUP.
There are three different types of assessments that students will be expected to complete
throughout these lesson: entry-level, formative assessment, and summative assessments. The first
section describes these assessments. Underneath, you can access or download the different types
of assessments. After reviewing that, there is a click here section where students can click and
view their formative assessment online quiz and summative assessment final paper rubric.
Underneath that is a section further describing and summarizing each lesson and the assessments
included.
For additional tools and to access resources that we will use throughout the unit, please locate the
tool bar on top of the page and either click or scroll over it to see the Unit resources. Click UNit
Resources. This should lead you to the sixth page of this DUP.
As you can see there are many sources that relay additional information on all the subjects we
covered. And at the bottom there are direct links to resources used for class activities and
