DUP screencast

In this section I will review how to navigate the Earth and Human Activity, lesson plans, and
assessments.
Lets begin with the Earth and Human Activity home page. Please locate the tool bar on top of the
page and either click or scroll over it to see the “Home Page”. Click the Home page. This should
lead you to the first page of this DUP. This page describes the unit summary, standards, big ideas
and questions, and student learning objectives.

The Unit Plan was designed to help students develop their knowledge of natural resources,
natural hazards, and natural disasters! In this Unit Plan we will delve into the various ways that
human impact the environment and understand the meaning of anthropogenic impacts. Students
will work individually and collaboratively to create their own ideas to address environmental
sustainability and how to reduce their carbon footprint and consumption of natural resources.

Next are the standards. In these lessons we will meet Discipline Standards: HS-ESS3-1, HS-
ESS3-2, and HS-ESS3-3. For the California Common Core State Standards, the standards meet
include: RST.11-12.1, RST.11-12-8, and WHST.9-12.2.a-e. Please read more or visit the
California State Standards link located on the Unit Resources page.

The big ideas and questions that student should remember and consider throughout the lesson
include
● What are natural resources?
● What are Ecological or Carbon Footprints?
● How have humans influenced or affected the abundance and diversity of Earth’s natural
resources?
● What resources do you use that come from the earth?
● How have you impacted the Earth?
● What does it mean to “reduce, reuse, recycle”?

Student learning objectives are to

● develop knowledge on natural resources and hazards

● read and research natural and anthropogenic impacts on the environment
● create questions and ideas to address environmental sustainability.
● write the ways in which they consume natural resources
● utilize digital quizzes to understand their carbon footprint.
● utilize simulations to understand the effects of natural disasters and the significance of
natural resources management.
