Beth A. Dibble
Assistant Director for Nursing Admissions
University of North Florida
1 UNF Drive Jacksonville, FL 32224

Dear Beth A. Dibble:

My name is Hanna Hartford and I am currently a Nutrition and Dietetics student at The University of
North Florida. I am especially excited to be writing a letter to you, as that means I am applying to
another fantastic program UNF has to offer. I truly enjoyed my time here as a first-time undergraduate
student, so I am fond of returning here. I have only heard positive reviews about the nursing program
UNF has to offer, therefore it was my first choice when acquiring about the accelerated bachelors
program in nursing. Even though I do have an interest in nutrition, I decided a couple years into college
that nursing was my ultimate route, as I would like to eventually receive my Master of Science in
Nursing.

A couple years into my time as a first-time undergraduate student, I was asked to do a project for
Anatomy and Physiology II in a medical setting. I chose to shadow a Nurse Practitioner for the project.
The experience was a lot of fun, but mainly eye-opening. I realized would be able to reach a larger group
of patients, have more power in my practice and business, be able to prescribe medicine, as well as
teach patients about nutrition health, and ultimately be able to help more people using different scopes
of knowledge as a nurse practitioner instead of a dietician. I knew I was interested in helping others as
young as elementary school. I always supported the odd-kid out of the class, assisted teachers in critical
situations, and got my first CPR and babysitting license at age 13. In high school, I participated in many
clubs and sports, but a particular case, I was vice president of the student body and initiated change
through the principal concerning service club try-outs. After a few meetings with the principal and
teachers, I was able to bring better fairness in judging at service club try-outs, a big concern at my
school for students unfairly left out of service club participation. I also held and practiced my lifeguard
license for a couple years in high school, which was great experience. Towards the end of high school,
when I volunteered in a hospital and gained an interest in nutrition, I started transitioning my want to
help people into terms of health care. By the time I was in college, I understood that no matter what the
position, wanted to help people in the medical field, hopefully involving nutrition as well.

I believe my interest in helping others, as well as my work ethic make me a suited candidate for the
accelerated bachelors of science in nursing program. I think my logical side will help me quickly
evaluate patients without becoming squeamish. I believe my experience in hospitals, nursing homes,
and research labs have helped me gain a broader knowledge on what to expect, how to use additional

equipment, and how to conduct myself in those different health-related environments. I enjoy the
learning process and am excited to learn more about nursing. Thank you for reviewing my letter and
resume. I hope to hear back from you or admissions in the coming weeks!

Sincerely,

Hanna Hartford
