from Soviet control.
10.9.7. Analyze the reasons for the collapse of the Soviet Union, including the weakness of the
command economy, burdens of military commitments, and growing resistance to Soviet rule by
dissidents in satellite states and the non-Russian Soviet republics.
10.9.8 Discuss the establishment and work of the United Nations and the purposes and functions
of the Warsaw Pact, SEATO, NATO, and the Organization of American States.

Student Learning Objective:

Unit Summary:
In this unit, students will be looking into the events that followed shortly after World War II.
Students will examine the differences between East and West Europe through Germany. Teacher
lecture, graphic organizers and clips that will be attached to this unit, students will gain a deeper
understanding of the division of ideology. Students will also be examining times in which
resistance surfaced during the lifespan of the Soviet Union. By the end of the unit, students will
be able to present why the Soviet Union collapsed as well as understand the living circumstances
the average citizen faced during the mid to late 20th century. Students will discuss the importance
of the organizations made during the era as well as the plans passed in order for Europe to
recover from the world war.
