Welcome to Spanish class and the school year 2018-2019 at El Sol. I sincerely hope that this year is
fun and productive for you. The following information will help you pass the class without difficulty.
Please take your time to review with your parents. Remember that our goal is to provide the best possible
education. To achieve this goal we need your cooperation.
Classroom Rules:
Breaking Rules
Attendance:
All students must attend and get to class on time every day. Class participation is absolutely necessary to
pass the course successfully.
Class Grading Policy
Grades will be distributed among homework, class work, quizzes, exams and projects.
Homework: Homework assignments will have the due date written on the top right corner, students must
turn the homework by the deadline. The homework consists of a short text (narrative/ informative)
students must read it to answer the comprehension questions that follow. Homework assignments should
take approximately 20 minutes.
Class work: These will be assigned by the teacher after presenting content and should be completed
during class time. If a student does not complete the assignment in class, students must take the
assignment home, complete it and return it the next day.
Exams/ Quizzes: A review is given for each chapter we study in class. Before the exam students will
have quizzes to monitor progress in class. If a student is absent the day of the exam he or she will have
three days to take it. If the student fails the exam, he or she will have the opportunity to re-take it, but will
only receive a 70% C-. (Before or after school by appointment)
Projects: All assigned projects are to be turned in on the date set. Students will be given the necessary
information and time to complete them with the required quality.
Late Assignments: Both class work and projects that are not turned in on the date set will not receive full
credit. Each assignment will lose 5 points per day after the due date.
Accelerated Reader (AR): Aside from the class assignments students are expected to read
independently. Students will be taking the STARS test four times throughout the school year. This test
will determine what level books the student should be reading. Students may borrow a book from one of
the Spanish classes or check out a book from a public library. Students are expected to pass at least one
Spanish AR test every month. Test scores will be included in the gradebook as part of the overall grade.
Absences: A student has the same number of days he/she was absent to complete the missed assignments.
It is the student’s responsibility to obtain the assignments from the teacher.
Restroom Use: Students are not allowed to exit the classroom without teacher’s permission. Students will
be given three passes per trimester and they must sign the sign-in/sign-out sheet before leaving the
classroom and once they return.
Daily Routines
Beginning of Class: Students must be in their assign seats with the materials needed for the day ready to
begin class.
During Class: There will be activities where you will work individually, in pairs or in groups.
At the end of class: The room should be cleaned and organized. You should write your homework in
your agenda if any is assigned for the day. You should stay in your seat until you are dismissed.
Materials: Students have access to dictionaries and books in the classroom. Students may also use lined
paper, color pencils, glue sticks, scissors, rulers, etc. found in the “materials” cabinet/organizer.
Teacher’s Availability: Teacher will be available before school (7:30 – 7:55 by appointment) and after
