Antichrist and His Kingdom
Part 4: The Fall of His Kingdom: The Road to Armageddon
Antichrist’s rise to power consumes the
first three and one-half years of the Tribu-
lation. He is a thoroughly irreligious man,
committed to military force, and although
an apostate with respect to the religion of
his fathers, he does worship a hitherto un-
known “god of fortresses” (Dan 11:36-38).
As he consolidates his dominion, he subju-
gates the strongest military bases in the
world, aided by demonic powers (v. 39).
He is also politically shrewd, honoring
those who recognize his authority with
positions of power and parceling out land
to his own advantage.
During the first half of the Tribulation,
Antichrist makes a “firm covenant” with
Israel to last seven years. Towards the
middle of those seven years, however, he is
killed, but brought back to life (the parallel
with the Lord Jesus is obvious). Although
the resurrection of Christ has never im-
pressed the world at large, the resurrection
of Antichrist will. At that point, and with
the assistance of his miracle-working False
Prophet, he will exalt himself as a god and
demand that the world worship him. He
will also break his treaty with Israel (Dan
9:27), forbidding the practice of the Jewish
religious sacrifices and emphasizing his
latent Anti-Semitism by erecting the
“abomination of desolation” in the rebuilt
temple—probably the statue of him that is
miraculously empowered to speak (Rev
13:14-15).
From this point on, Antichrist is dei-
fied in the eyes of many. He is supernatu-
rally given three and one-half years of au-
thority (Rev 13:5). At this juncture, the
whole world is amazed and gives allegiance
to him, by way of worshiping Satan (vv. 3-
4). To resist him will be futile (v. 4). He
will speak blasphemy against God, against
the temple in Jerusalem, and against the
saints who are in heaven (v. 6).

In addition, the False Prophet (the
second beast of v. 11), deceives the world by
virtue of his miracles, including calling fire
down from heaven (v. 13) and imposing the
infamous “mark of the beast” on the world
as an act of economic hegemony, guaran-
teeing that, in order to buy food, the entire
world will worship Antichrist (vv. 16-18).
For a little while, he “will prosper and per-
form his will” (Dan 8:24), destroying many
mighty men and the Jewish people, appar-
ently while many of them are at ease (“liv-
ing securely,” v. 25).
The violation of his treaty with Israel
and his rapid ascent to the status of an ab-
solute, repressive, and evil world dictator,
apparently doesn’t sit well with some world
leaders. Almost simultaneously with
reaching the pinnacle of his power, his
kingdom begins its descent into destruc-
tion. First, the coalition which forms the
base of his power crumbles. The portion of
that alliance located in the former Roman
Empire (southern Europe and North Af-
rica) rebels against Babylon. We are not
told why, but it is possible that there is a
bias against the European-African element
by the Middle Eastern (Muslim) coalition
(the seven heads). After all, Babylon is
located in Muslim Iraq, and Revelation 18
makes it clear that Babylon enriches herself
at the expense of the rest of the world,
something which may well create resent-
ment.
But here is the amazing thing. Some-
thing will motivate Antichrist to turn
against his own capital city right along with
the ten-nation confederacy. John writes,
“And the ten horns which you saw, and the
beast, these will hate the harlot” (Rev
17:16). Whether the confederacy and Anti-
christ each spurn Babylon for the same
reason is something we are not told.
Here is a possible scenario. As the end
of the three and one-half years approaches,
worldwide dissatisfaction with Antichrist
begins to manifest itself in open rebellion.
First he experiences trouble with part of his
Muslim confederation. Again, the catalyst
may well be economic, as Antichrist hordes
the world’s wealth in Babylon, creating
shortages in other regions, such as is im-
plied by the vision of the black horse in
Revelation 6:5-6, where a mere quart of
wheat is sold for a day’s wages. The King of
the South, probably the governor of Egypt
who allies himself with the “Libyans” (So-
malis?) and the “Ethiopians” (Sudanese?)
mounts a military offensive against Anti-
christ (Dan 11:40).
While Antichrist is attempting to quell
the rebellion in North Africa, however, the
King of the North sees his opportunity to
make a move. This is the leader of a north-
ern coalition of armies which may well be
drawn from northern Europe and Russia,
and perhaps even those allied with those
nations, such as those from North America.
Until now, these nations have not signifi-
cantly figured in the events transpiring in
the Middle East, but with the exaltation of
Antichrist to the status of world dictator
and with the inauguration of the most bru-
tal reign of terror in human history, these
nations decide that they must take the ini-
tiative to act, which they do in an all-out
land and sea-based assault: “the king of
the South will collide with him [Antichrist],
and the king of the North will storm
against him with chariots [armored divi-
sions], horsemen, and with many ships
[navy]; and he will enter countries, over-
flow them, and pass through” (Dan 11:40).
As the northern coalition advances
through the Mediterranean Sea and over
land, probably through Eastern Europe
and Turkey, Antichrist panics, and decides
to abandon his North Africa campaign to
deal with the ominous threat from the
north. By now, he knows that his economic

policies have generated hostility, and he
decides something needs to be done to
deflect the insurrection. Thoroughly en-
raged, he and his military hastily retreat
northward across Suez and into Israel (“He
will also enter the Beautiful Land, and
many countries will fall,” v. 41), wreaking
destruction as they go, including on Egypt,
but perhaps because of their proximity to
Saudi Arabia, sparing “Edom, Moab and
the foremost of the sons of Ammon” (the
territory of modern Jordan, v. 42). Read
again the prophecy of Ezekiel 30:1-19 (An-
tichrist is called “Nebuchadnezzar” in this
text.)
Unable to resist the temptation to en-
rich himself, he raids the treasuries of
Egypt in the process: “he will gain control
over all the precious things of Egypt” (v.
43), but the Libyans (Somalis?) and the
Ethiopians (Sudanese?) “will follow at his
heels,” apparently pursuing him. Just
then, “rumors from the East and from the
North will disturb him” (v. 44a). In fact,
opposition is mounted against Antichrist
by a military confederation from the Ori-
ent. This is one of the bowl judgments:
“And the sixth angel poured out his bowl
upon the great river, the Euphrates; and its
water was dried up, that the way might be
prepared for the kings from the east” (Rev.
16:12). “And the number of the armies of
the horsemen was two hundred million”
(Rev 9:16). They are described in omi-
nously ferocious terms (v. 17).
As these immense armies approach
from the north and from the east, with hos-
tile elements in hot pursuit from Africa, a
threatened, but outraged, Antichrist has to
make a strategic decision very quickly in
order to deliver himself. He now positions
himself against his own capital city, agree-
ing with his angry subjects that they have
been economically raped by greedy Baby-
lon (it’s not his fault!), and to prove his
sincerity, turns his armies from the south-
ern Europe-North Africa coalition against
the city: “And the ten horns which you
saw, and the beast, these will hate the har-
lot [Babylon] and will make her desolate
and naked, and will eat her flesh and will
burn her up with fire” (Rev 17:16). This
attack coincides with the pouring out of the
seventh bowl judgment in which a huge
earthquake levels a third of Jerusalem and
many Gentile cities as well, rearranging the
topography of the Middle East (Rev. 16:19-
20), and in which an unprecedented hail
storm with 100-pound hail stones deci-
mates much of the land.
Thus, Antichrist is responsible for de-
stroying his own capital, an event which
devastates the global economy, to the utter
dismay of the world’s political and eco-
nomic leaders. “Babylon the great” has
fallen (the entire chapter of Revelation 18
is devoted to this event)! Now he is ready
to take on the rebel armies (“he will go
forth with great wrath to destroy and anni-
hilate many,” Dan 11:44b). But it’s too late.
The armies are converging—from the
north, from the east, and on his rear flank
from Africa. In one last desperate move,
and without a capital from which to gov-
ern, Antichrist “will pitch the tents of his
royal pavilion between the seas [Mediter-
ranean and Dead Seas] and the beautiful
Holy Mountain [Zion]” (v. 45a), thereby
establishing a temporary base of opera-
tions in Israel.
As the hostile armies approach from
the north, Antichrist plays his final hand.
He blames all of the world’s devastation,
from the destruction of Babylon, to the
earthquakes and hail, and the severe eco-
nomic devastation on . . . yes, Israel and
the Jews. Under the influence of demons
(Rev 16:13-14), he succeeds in turning the
advancing armies against Israel. From
their staging area in the plains of Megiddo
(Jezreel), they proceed to besiege Jerusa-
lem: “And all the nations of the earth will
be gathered against it” (Zech 12:3); “they
gathered them together to the place which
in Hebrew is called Har-Magedon” (Arma-
geddon, v. 16; see Joel 2). The nations are
ready to destroy Israel once and for all,
when the Lord Jesus Christ himself inter-
venes: “And it will come about in that day
that I will set about to destroy all the na-
tions that come against Jerusalem” (Zech
12:9).
“And I saw heaven opened, and be-
hold, a white horse, and He who sat
on it is called Faithful and True, and
in righteousness He judges and wages
war. His eyes are a flame of fire, and
on His head are many diadems; and
He has a name written on Him which
no one knows except Himself. He is
clothed with a robe dipped in blood,
and His name is called The Word of
God. And the armies which are in

heaven, clothed in fine linen, white
and clean, were following Him on
white horses. From His mouth comes
a sharp sword, so that with it He may
strike down the nations, and He will
rule them with a rod of iron; and He
treads the wine press of the fierce
wrath of God, the Almighty. And on
His robe and on His thigh He has a
name written, ‘KING OF KINGS, AND
LORD OF LORDS.’ Then I saw an
angel standing in the sun, and he
cried out with a loud voice, saying to
all the birds which fly in midheaven,
‘Come, assemble for the great supper
of God; so that you may eat the flesh
of commanders and the flesh of
mighty men and the flesh of horses
and of those who sit on them and the
flesh of all men, both free men and
slaves, and small and great.’ And I
saw the beast and the kings of the
earth and their armies assembled to
make war against Him who sat on the
horse and against His army. And the
beast was seized, and with him the
false prophet who performed the
signs in his presence, by which he de-
ceived those who had received the
mark of the beast and those who wor-
shiped his image; these two were
thrown alive into the lake of fire
which burns with brimstone. And the
rest were killed with the sword which
came from the mouth of Him who sat
on the horse, and all the birds were
filled with their flesh” (Rev 19:11-21).
It is a scene of unprecedented carnage
as Antichrist “will come to his end, and no
one will help him” (Dan 11:45b). Thus, the
Tribulation ends, Satan is bound (Rev
20:1-3), and the Messianic (Millennial)
Kingdom is inaugurated (Rev 20:4-7).
We must conclude, then, that although
the prophetic Scriptures have a great deal
to say about Antichrist, his rise, his king-
dom, and his fall, we who live in this pre-
sent age of God’s grace will not know his
identity. It is fascinating, however, to see
world leaders appearing who increasingly
conform to the details of his description.
Will the current President of the United
States be the Antichrist? We cannot know
one way or the other. Our responsibility,
however, is to heed our Lord’s exhortation:
“But when these things begin to take place,
straighten up and lift up your heads, be-
cause your redemption is drawing near”
(Lk 21:28). Indeed, “MARANATHA” (“O
Lord, Come!” 1 Cor 16:22).

 Getting Acquainted with Ruth Kerr
There are some
individuals for
whom the Getting
Acquainted
column is perfectly
suited, and Ruth
Kerr is one of
those precious
individuals about
whom we rarely
hear. She is
faithful to Senior Saints, bringing a won-
derful edge to the seniors’ fellowshipping.
Most of the time she is quiet, pondering
her next item of crocheting, but not letting
her sense of humor and enduring smile be
hidden away from others.
Ruth is a native New Yorker, born in
Brooklyn on December 10, 1927. Her fa-
ther, John Kerr, was a bricklayer and her
mother, Beatrice Kerr, was a housewife and
mother to her four children: Ruth (the old-
est), William, Gordon, and Mary.
Ruth’s early memories of her father
are very sketchy because he died when she
was only five years old. She does remem-
ber her Methodist days at the Central
Methodist Church in Brooklyn; her father
helped build the church and he also served
as a deacon in the church.
The funeral of her father was a sad day
for her and a day she will never forget. She
wanted to say goodbye to her Dad, not fully

ture’s Paraclete
Center (a center
that embodies the
commitment to
come alongside
others to encourage, equip, and empower
them in their journey with Christ, and par-
ticipate in a ministry with Him around the
world) advised Jim and Tessie Wroth to
come back to the states to rest before re-
engaging in ministry.
As a result, Jim and Tessie Wroth have
returned to Southern California and were
offered the parsonage of the Bonsall Com-
munity Church to live in rent-free for one
year. This is certainly a blessing to the
Wroths because the Bonsall Elementary
School is directly across the road from
where they are living; their children Esther
and James were able to start school just
understanding as a five-year-old what had
happened. Ruth’s uncle lifted her up in
order to kiss him one last time and as he
lifted her down close to him, Ruth slid out
of her uncle’s arms and into the coffin next
to her beloved father. The incident re-
mains a strong memory and the beginning
of a struggling relationship with her
mother. It initiated many visits with her
grandmother, some of them months at a
time. Her grandmother’s caring heart
promoted much healing and provided her
with a peaceful retreat.
Ruth remembers her young life as a
struggle but was able to develop a caring
and nurturing heart. Maybe it was the
years she became a Girl Scout, an organiza-
tion that teaches compassion among other
things⎯for Ruth developed a very kind
and compassionate heart.
She remained in Brooklyn for the first
30 years of her life. In the earlier days of
those years she liked to sing; Ruth sang in
her church choir and occasionally went
roller skating where she met her husband
when he asked to dance/roller skate. Ruth
continued her education at Suffolk Com-
munity College and completed two years of
college in the nursing curriculum. She had
six children: Charles, now 62; Barbara,
now 60; Dorothy, now 55; Joanne, now 49;
and the twins, John and Maryann, now 47.
after Labor Day. (The Wroths also have
two younger children, Hannah and Caleb.)
Their home assignment will also be a time
to visit supporting churches such as the
WRBC.
For now, Jim and Tessie are once
again searching for opportunities in the
mission field as World Venture is placing a
great emphasis on their part of East Asia.
Jim has studied eight semesters of Manda-
rin Chinese, which together with his teach-
ing background makes Jim an excellent
candidate for a job to teach English. They
envision Jim continuing to mentor believ-
Ruth enjoyed working with people
with needs and became a nurse’s aide. She
worked at various hospitals including St.
Charles Hospital, Methodist Hospital, and
East End Hospice. Sadly, her marriage
ended after 26 years.
She adopted a “gypsy” lifestyle moving
back and forth several times from Pennsyl-
vania to Long Island to be closer to her
children; most recently she moved to North
Carolina with her son. Ruth finally decided
that Calverton is where she desires to be.
She was raised a Methodist not fully
understanding Biblical truths. A couple of
years ago she let Jesus into her life and a
friend suggested she attend the WRBC in
order to nourish her new relationship with
Jesus Christ. That was 2 years ago. Her
faith is new but it is growing under Pastor
Glass’s preaching.
She is a warm-hearted individual and
loves to write and crochet. Without a
doubt, Ruth’s crocheting skills are on the
professional level and she is available to
crochet for you that special gift or maybe
an item you have been wanting. She is
most generous not only with the love she
has to give but when she can, in the gifts
she gives to those around her. Ruth is a
lady to appreciate if given the opportunity.

one-on-one or in small groups. The vision
also includes reaching out to couples in
East Asia, providing retreats and work-
shops. Another possibility that they are
praying for is an opportunity tied to the
concept of “Business as Mission”, where
they might support a business that demon-
strates and proclaims Christian values.
They had been blessed with financial
support up until the last few months before
returning to the US; the economy here in
the US was making it difficult for support-
ers to continue with their financial support.
Some supporters have had to cut back their
giving; others have dropped their support
completely. One of their goals while here
in the US is to work with current and new
partners until their support level is once
again at 100%. Jim and Tessie have ex-
pressed their gratefulness that WRBC has
remained faithful in their support and hope
to visit with WRBC sometime in early 2011.

An Interview with Christopher Glass
Working from Lancaster, Pennsylvania,
Chris Glass is the WRBC webmaster, and
in this article, he answers questions you
may have about our media resources.
WRBC’s new web site was rolled out
two months ago. What was involved
in the process of developing it? A lot
of work was invested in it. What you cur-
rently see is just the beginning. There are
additional components currently being
developed; however, the basic parameters
of the site are in place. We have had a site
for several years, but in order to maximize
the potential provided by the current state
of web resources, we evaluated our content
to see if it was compatible with the vision
and purpose of the church. Then I
matched the church’s vision and purpose
with my vision, and, in constant consulta-
tion with my Dad (Pastor Glass) and the
deacons, I went to work. Overall, it took
me about a month and a half to build the
new site.
You use the word vision and purpose
of the church, what do you mean by
this? I believe that every organization
needs a set of goals—the direction it seeks
to move—and this is what I mean by vision.
A vision guides an organization as it strives
to fulfill its calling. When I look at this site,
my vision is not primarily to have more
people to visit the site (although that is
certainly desirable), but to convey a mes-
sage of who Wading River Baptist Church
is. I want people to know that we as a
church want to be open to the community
and to maintain an outreach to the lost.
That is why I want to offer as many re-
sources as I can to help those who visit the
site to have a clear understanding of who
we are, whether by exploring our minis-
tries, considering our doctrinal convictions
or ministry priorities, or by listening to
Pastor Glass’s sermons, or reading his blog.
My vision is not only to clearly communi-
cate who we are, but to make it a place
which first-time users can easily navigate.
In my opinion, our previous site was not
organized for maximum efficiency. The
new site, however, assists visitors in decid-
ing where they want to go and how to get
there. Many churches crowd their home
pages with so much information that it can
be overwhelming. I was striving to develop
a clean and simple look.
You mean something like Apple or
Google? That’s right. Their home pages
project a clear and clean message.
WRBC on the Web
Another part of your vision was to
increase the visibility of the church
on the web. How are you doing that?
What resources are you using? This is
a great question because a lot of people
think that putting a website together is just
throwing some information together and
slapping it up on a site. That is how many
churches do it and that is the reason I
started my own business which I call Lil
Blue Box. My goal for this company is to
help ministries and non-profit organiza-
tions to develop a plan to get them on the
web with an effective site, or to assess their
current sites with an eye to improving
them. Technology plays a huge role in our
lives today; it’s everywhere, impacting vir-
tually everything we do. That is a reality
we cannot resist or change. We need to ask
ourselves, “How can we use these tools to
help proclaim the Gospel?” A website is a
good start. After we got married, my wife
and I looked for a new church; instead of
looking in the phone book, I went to
Google and checked out churches. I was
able to explore what they believe and was
able to identify churches we could visit.
Think about the grass in front of the
church. We spend time making sure all the
grass is cut and the weeds are picked be-
cause we want to make a good first impres-
sion upon those who come and visit us.
Our website is our front door on the inter-
net. People are simply not using the yellow
pages as they used to do.
So what tools do you use to “cut the
grass”? Well first, there is Google Ana-
lytics. This is a tool that helps me as a web
developer to understand who is visiting the
site, how long they are there, and what they
are accessing. I can give you statistics
about almost everything except the per-
son’s identity and their web address. Now
why is this critical? The information I
glean tells me what pages they are seeing
and how long they are on that page com-
pared to pages that are visited less fre-
quently. I can understand what people are
seeking on our site. To give you some
numbers: last year, we had 3,190 visits to
the site with an average of 8 pages per visit.
We had visits from 42 states and four dif-
ferent countries. But this information
doesn’t even scratch the surface of what’s
available.
Did you expect this kind of response?
No. I had an idea of who knew about
WRBC, but this was more than I expected.
It’s encouraging.
What is the second tool you use?
Facebook. Facebook is a way to get our
name out on the web. I remember meeting
one person at WRBC whom I asked how he
found us and he said, “Well, I didn’t know
you existed until I drove by.” Facebook will
help people on Long Island know that we
exist and will help direct them to our site.
These web tools are great resources to help
us increase our exposure.
You mention using Facebook along
with the website. Can you explain to
us what Facebook is for and why it is
a good resource? Sure! Facebook is a
social networking site. Social networking
enables people to connect with old friends
and facilitates letting one’s circle of friends
know what’s going on in his life. Over half
a billion people around the world are on
Facebook. Many ministries are seeing the
value of maintaining a presence there too.
Obviously, social networking has always
been around—it’s called talking! Facebook
is just another way of communicating with
family, friends, and co-workers. So why
use Facebook? It gives us a presence on
the web to which other people can connect.
When people link to us, it creates some-
thing of a domino effect, helping people
around the world to know who and where
we are. Facebook has also helped some of
us to rekindle and maintain relationships
with former church members that may go
back many years.
So you’re saying that people have
come together because of the Face-
book page? Sure. I have read people
saying to Facebook friends how nice it was
to talk to them again.
What else has it done? Facebook can
also help us communicate concerning
church events. If you are on Facebook, we
could possibly send an event notification
and ask if you are coming. In other words,
it could function as just another form of a
sign-up sheet!
What about security? Most of us are
being more cautious in light of iden-
tity theft. I can understand that there
may be a concern as to whether personal
information might be used on this site.
The Wading River Baptist Church Face-
book page will not be used to share per-
sonal information and if there is any type
of inappropriate communication, the web-
master will remove those communications
quickly. However, there may be times when
it may not be caught and so we ask that

users of Facebook take full responsibility
for their use of the site.
It’s good to know that we are using
these available resources. What
other resources are there on our
site? We have many pages of resources
such as the sermon page, where all our
latest sermons are uploaded for digital use.
How far back can we go? We know,
for example, that John MacArthur’s
complete sermon archive is accessi-
ble through his website. Well, we’re
not quite there yet! We go back about two
years. We are planning on trying to move
all the sermons over, but to transfer 17
years of sermons can be very time consum-
ing. If we had full-time employees doing
The “Thelein” Universe – Part 1
In the Wading River Baptist Church “Sun-
day College,” we recently completed a
study entitled “God’s Universe,” including
the attendant ungodly claims on the part
of the scientific community for its origin
compared to God’s Word. We covered the
big bang theory and have demonstrated
its scientific, logical, and scriptural short-
comings sufficiently to the point that no
Christian should place any faith in it over
the plain teaching of Scripture of creation
in six ordinary-length days. There is a
tremendous amount of good scientific and
Christian scriptural evidence to refute the
secular idea of evolution, of which most
Christians are unaware. As you read the
following, I urge you to review the verses
quoted for yourself and allow God’s Holy
Spirit to convince you of their authority
and accuracy.
The “Thelein” Universe (pronounced
“THELL-ain,” the New Testament Greek
word for “will”) is an excellent way to de-
scribe God’s creation. The Thelein Uni-
verse is the universe in which God’s will is
the dominant force. In fact, God’s will is
the key to understanding the universe.
That will is expressed in God’s written
Word. “All things came into being through
Him, and apart from Him nothing came
into being that has come into being” (Jn
1:3); “Worthy are You, our Lord and our
God, to receive glory and honor and
power; for You created all things, and
because of Your will they existed, and
were created” (Rev 4:11). In light of mod-
ern science, however, Christians can be
deceived.
For example, the Genesis chronology
suggests that most of the fossils were laid
down during the great flood of Noah and
its aftermath. They stand as a visual re-
minder that the consequence of sin is suf-

then don’t forget The Beacon. You can

Pastor Glass’s blog which is really the tran-
script of his monthly radio devotional on
the Mars Hill Network. Due to time con-
siderations, Pastor Glass does not himself
write on the blog, but it is there for those
who wish to comment.
fering and death. But if the fossil record
was laid down before the Fall, as virtually
all compromise positions hold, then death
is a natural part of life and it was in the
world (along with cancer and other suffer-
ing) for millions of years before man ap-
peared on the scene. Death therefore has
no relationship to man’s sin. Indeed, in the
theistic evolutionary views, death is not
just a natural part of life; it is an essential
part of life because death is fundamental to
the Darwinian mechanism of natural selec-
tion. The “unfit” die, but the “fit” survive
long enough to reproduce.
If death is a natural part of life, there-
fore, then it cannot be the special penalty
for sin, in which case the death of Christ, as
payment of the penalty for sin, is an empty
myth! The logic of the Atonement is shat-
tered at its very foundation! As a conse-
quence of this, theistic evolutionists must
deny the “penal substitution” view of the
Atonement (i.e., the doctrine that Christ
paid the penalty for our sins by dying in
our place). They have to invent some other
meaning to replace it, putting their faith in
man, science, and evolution. Unregenerate
man will not—indeed, cannot—see the
truth.
The wonder is not that unsaved people
get caught up in lies, confidence scams,
news “spin,” or outright efforts to deceive,
but that those who claim to be the people
of God—those who have been born again
and have been given the “mind of Christ”—
can be taken in by such nonsense. Paul’s
warning to Timothy, after urging him to
“preach the Word,” however, was that such
would be the case in a time to come. “For
the time will come when they will not en-
dure sound doctrine; but wanting to have
their ears tickled, they will accumulate for
themselves teachers in accordance to their

myths” (2 Tim 4:3-4).
Recently, there has been a coalescing
of several independent groups who have
combined their talent and notoriety to cap-
ture an intellectual and theological agree-
ment among evangelicals that “creation”
does not have to be recent. They have re-
jected the notion that creation occurred
during six “normal” (24-hour) days as is
indicated by the words of Scripture, con-
tending that Scripture can be understood
to mean “natural development over time,”
as allegedly “proven” by modern science.
Their arguments are not new. Theistic
evolution has been taught in one form or
another for 150 years. The so called “Day-
Age” interpretation of Genesis is equally
long-lived, and various harmonizing theo-
ries have been proposed, such as the “Gap
Theory”, “progressive Creation” (as es-
poused by Dr. Hugh Ross), and, more re-
cently, “creation by evolution” postulated
by evangelical Hebrew scholar Bruce
Waltke.
The organization that has risen to be-
come the “umbrella” under which most of
these various proponents gather is the
BioLogos Foundation, founded by Francis
Collins and funded by the Templeton
Foundation under the leadership of its
president, Darrell Falk. BioLogos has co-
sponsored a new initiative called “The Vi-
brant Dance of Faith & Science”, the stated
mission of which is to “… inspire, educate,
and unify pastors, scientists, Christian
leaders, and concerned lay people, as well
as seekers and skeptics, with the growing
congruence of scientific discovery with our
Christian faith and to explore the implica-
tions and applications of that congruence.”

sources” is led by a number of well-known
speakers from Reasons to Believe, BioLo-
gos, Discovery Institute, and several emi-
nent universities and world-renowned
churches that espouse a harmonization of
naturalistic science with the biblical text:
“More than ever before, recent scientific
discovery is both confirming and illuminat-
ing our Christian faith. From progressive-
creationism to theistic-evolution, there is a
wide spectrum of interpretations of both
science and the fact-and-mode of God’s
creative activity. Informed, non-
confrontational discourse will be the key to
furthering the gospel of Christ.”
The BioLogos project states: “Some of
the byproducts of natural selection are in-
tricate structures that can fashion cellular
machines that are able to harm us, just like
the machines that we humans make. It
happens in the context of freedom – God-
granted freedom. However, the notion that
irreducibly complex structures are built
and put in place by a meticulous detail-
driven intelligent designer is not consistent

Bill Mallman led prayer meeting while
Pastor Glass was on vacation. On Wednes-
day, September 1st, Bill showed up with his
harmonica and banjo in hand which initi-
ated a background study of the gospel
hymn “God Leads Us Along” by G. A.
Young. Bill strummed his banjo to a few
choruses of the hymn as those in atten-
dance joined to sing along with him.
September 11th is a day to remember
and the Senior Saints did as a handful of
seniors met for a Hot Dog Extravaganza
Luncheon in the fellowship hall of the
WRBC. Attendance was down a bit but the
enthusiasm could be easily recognized as a

view, I would venture to say it borders on
the heretical–certainly it is scientifically
heretical, but I wonder if it is not theologi-
cally so as well. God is not the engineer
that built these intricate little terror ma-
chines. And the Satan that we know from
Christian theology is not a designer of life’s
machinery. Those who wish to believe this
are free to do so, but they have moved
onto an island of scientific fantasy and
perhaps even theological heterodoxy. The
greatest beauty in the universe emerges
through processes that arise through God-
ordained freedom. Let us celebrate that
beauty, even as we, in the presence of
God’s Spirit, grit our teeth, and endure the
hardships that come as a byproduct” (Dar-
rell Falk, president of BioLogos).
Falk believes in a form of Deism, the
idea that God created the universe through
the big bang and left it alone with the “free-
dom” to evolve for many billions of years,

bit up. A hot dog buffet with all the re-
gional favorite toppings was definitely a
fun luncheon bringing the child out in eve-
ryone. That youthful desire was also ful-
filled with ice cream sundaes for dessert.
Mike Pandolfini brought a very sensitive
and spiritual moment to the luncheon with
his touching testimony and
a thought to ponder. The
thought was initiated by one
of Mike’s coworkers who

Mike’s message was quite clear that all are
offered salvation just by asking to be saved
by our Lord Jesus Christ.
On September 24th, Awana kicked off
their season with promises of a full calen-
dar of meetings that are not just unique
and fun but full of God’s Gospel. Some of
the scheduled events are: Crazy Hair
Night, Crazy Shoes Night, Pajama Night,
and Beach Night (just to mention a few)
along with one of the Awana favorites, The
Grand Prix. Under the leadership of Chris
and Jackie Hallstrom, Awana is offered to
children from 3 years old up to and includ-
ing 8th grade. Awana is
open not only to those
from WRBC but from the
surrounding community.

life and then, ultimately, man. This way of
thinking says that evolution is God’s
method of creation and it is still going on,
so there is no reason to disbelieve the
claims of the secular scientists when they
say that all of reality is the result of a long
series of accidents, which do not require
God.
How should Christians respond to
these scientific experts who claim to be-
lieve both the Bible and evolutionary sci-
ence? Paul warned the Romans: “Now I
urge you, brethren, keep your eye on those
who cause dissensions and hindrances
contrary to the teaching which you
learned, and turn away from them. For
such men are slaves, not of our Lord
Christ but of their own appetites; and by
their smooth and flattering speech they
deceive the hearts of the unsuspecting”
(Rom 16:17-18). A proper biblical response
will introduce the next article in this series.

On September 26, 2010, WRBC wel-
comed Michael and Debbie Bannon, mis-
sionaries to Lithuania. First it was break-
fast with the Bannons combined with a
PowerPoint presentation of their work in
Lithuania. Both Michael and Debbie de-
scribed how they reach all ages as well as
all types of people. We have always known
of how they mentor growing Christians and
teach English to those in Lithuania, but it
was a joy to hear how they work within the
schools via the Good News Club; how a
colleague, Robertas, has devised a method
to send out a daily Bible verse to mobile
phones; how Robertas uses the computer
for pre-evangelistic online games for the
youth using the Scriptures as the basis of
the games; Debbie’s teas for the local
women where they meet for social pur-
poses and the Word of God is gradually
introduced to them; the Samaritan’s Purse;
and the Bible study for artists. Rev. Ban-
non later preached at the 11 o’clock service
on Psalm 90:
