GULAYAN SA PAARALAN NARRATIVE REPORT

INTRODUCTION

Pursuant to DepEd Memorandum 095 s. 2018 on “Sustaining the Implementation of

the Gulayan sa Paaralan Program in Public and Secondary Schools Nationwide”, the General
Artemio Ricarte Senior High School initiated a “Vegetable Garden in Pots” which aimed to:
1. To promote vegetable production in the school campus.
2. To establish and maintain gardens as ready food source of vegetables in
sustaining supplementary feeding.
3. To include among the learners the values of gardening, good health and
nutrition, love of labor and caring for others.

HIGHLIGHTS

The four (4) sections had each area to plant and propagate their vegetables. Each
section had their own choice of vegetable to be planted in their pots. Grade 11 – Oxygen
planted string beans and bitter gourd while Grade 11 – Mercury planted kamote and ginger.
Both Grade 12 Silver and Gold planted sili (aruy-uy) and eggplant.
Every student has a pot to maintain. In case the plant of a student dies or did not
survive, he/she has to replace the plant of the same kind. The Health and Wellness together
with the Supreme Student Government as well as the Science and Math Club devised their
own mechanics in the monitoring and evaluation of the Gulayan sa Paaralan Program in the
school and reporting of the findings are to be done weekly for improvement.
Banana and Malunggay trees were also planted at the back of the school building to
keep the soil from not eroding.

ISSUES AND CONCERN

 Due to the Habagat Rains and Typhoon Ompong, the vegetables in the garden
were destroyed, hence replacement of plants is encouraged.
 Narrow space for planting vegetables

RECCOMENDATIONS
 PTA Officers are encouraged to help in the maintenance of the said program.
 Students are encouraged to benchmark the Gulayan sa Paaralan Programs of
the schools who won in the Gulayan sa Paaralan Program within the division.
 Request for technical assistance from the City Agriculture Office and other
partner institutions inclined with agriculture
 Adopt hydrophonics technique in planting and even vertical in planting
vegetables.
