EBERSPÄCHER EURO 6 COMBINATION SYSTEM
Eberspächer combination systems consist of two main components:

a diesel particulate filter system – consisting of diesel oxidation
catalyst (DOC) and diesel particulate filter (DPF) – and a nitrogen
oxide reduction system, which includes urea metering and SCR
catalytic converters.
In addition to the emissions function, the Eberspächer combination

systems support compliance with the relevant noise regulations.
DPF: DIESEL PARTICULATE FILTER
The diesel particulate filter removes soot particles from the

exhaust emissions according to statutory levels.The particles are
collected in alternately closed ducts of the filter and are generally
continuously combusted by nitrogen dioxide (NO 2). If necessary,
active regeneration can be triggered through a targeted increase in
the exhaust gas temperature by mechanical means.
Unlike soot, ashes from fuel and engine oil cannot be combusted.
This can clog the filter over time. Therefore, the filter modules
can be removed for cleaning in accordance with the maintenance
intervals.
SCR – Selective Catalytic Reduction
After the removal of soot particles, the exhaust is mixed with an

injected aqueous urea solution – also known as “AdBlue” – to
reduce the nitrogen oxides.
It is important here to mix the aqueous urea solution completely

with the exhaust gas and to avoid deposits of urea. An Eberspächer
mixing element can efficiently support vaporization and mixing.
DOC: DIESEL OXIDATION CATALYST
The exhaust gas flow with the atomized reducing agent (“AdBlue”)
is now uniformly distributed to one or more catalytic converter
modules. The ammonia formed from the reducing agent reacts with
the nitrogen oxides (NO x) to form nitrogen (N 2) and water (H 2O).
Eberspächer technologies ensure maximum nitrogen oxide

conversion rates this way.
NON-ROAD APPLICATIONS
There is no doubt that what we have achieved so far with respect

to reducing pollutants and noise is something to be proud of.
But we will not stop there – there are already new challenges to
be met. For example, the emissions standards for fuel-powered
combustion engines have also become significantly stricter in the
non-road area: With stage IV/TIER 4, the average CO 2, NO X and
HC emissions will be drastically reduced. We have risen to the
challenge and come up with a non-road solution that satisfies on
every level.
