1.2 Create a domain configuration database andset up a database user accont. To create a domain with the
PowerCenter installer, you must create the domain configuration database. You can store the domain
configuration in the same database as the PowerCenter repository if you use the same database user name.
Use Table 2 to record the domain configuration database information:

1.3 Establish the installation environment. Determine if you are going to use a single-machine or a multiple-
machine installation. Identify the machine where you want to create a domain, and establish the port numbers
used by PowerCenter.
Use Table 3 to record the domain configuration information:

1.4 Create a system user account. Create a system user account to perform the installation and to run the
Informatica Services service or daemon. On Windows, the system user must be a member of the Administrator
group.
Use Table 4 to record the system user account information:

You can also install PowerCenter documentation, PowerCenter and Metadata Manager command line utilities,
and the Information Development Platform (IDP). For more information about installing PowerCenter, see the
PowerCenter Installation Guide.

Step 3. Complete the Post-Installation Tasks

3.1 Verify prerequisites. Review the prerequisites and verify database requirements, code page compatibility,
web browser, and third-party software prerequisites.
3.2 Create databases and user accounts. Create databases and user accounts for the PowerCenter repository,
Data Analyzer repository, and Metadata Manager repository. The database users must have permissions to create
and drop tables and indexes and to select, insert, update, and delete data from tables.
Use Table 9, Table 10, and Table 11 to record the repository database information:

3.5 Configure the web browser. Configure the web browser to access the PowerCenter Administration Console.
For more information about the post-installation tasks, see “After You Install” in the PowerCenter Configuration
Guide.

Step 4. Configure Application Services

4.1 Configure the Repository Service and Integration Service. Configure the Repository Service and
Integration Service and an optional Reporting Service. You can use the Configuration Assistant, or you can

configure them manually in the Administration Console. For more information, see the PowerCenter
Administrator Guide.
4.2 Configure the Metadata Manager Service. Configure the Metadata Manager Service and an optional
Reporting Service. You can use the Configuration Assistant, or you can configure it manually in the
Administration Console. For more information, see the PowerCenter Administrator Guide.
4.3 Manually configure the Reporting Services. Configure the Reporting Service in the Administration
Console. You can create a Reporting Service for PowerCenter and Metadata Manager. For more information,
see the PowerCenter Administrator Guide.

Step 5. Configure Data Profiling

5.1 Set up a Data Profiling warehouse. You can setup a Data Profiling warehouse for each PowerCenter
repository in which you want to store data profiles. For more information, see “After You Configure” in the
PowerCenter Configuration Guide.

Step 6. Configure Users

6.1 Change the administrator password. To ensure security, change the administrator password in the
Administration Console.
6.2 Create user accounts. Create users in the Administration Console. A user with an account in the
PowerCenter domain can perform tasks in the PowerCenter applications. Users can perform tasks in
PowerCenter based on the privileges and permissions assigned to them. For more information, see the
PowerCenter Administrator Guide.

Step 7. Configure Informatica Orchestration Server

If you have PowerCenter Real Time Edition, configure the repository and port number for Orchestration server.
For more information, see the PowerCenter Orchestration Guide.

Step 8. Install and Configure the PowerCenter Client

7.1 Install the PowerCenter Client. Run the installer to install the PowerCenter Client. For more information,
see “Client Installation” in the PowerCenter Installation Guide.

7.2 Install database client software. Install database client software on the machines where you install the
PowerCenter Client. Some DataDirect 5.2 ODBC drivers installed with the PowerCenter Client do not require
database client software on the PowerCenter Client machine.
7.3 Configure the web browser. Configure the web browser to access the Start Page in the PowerCenter Client.
For more information, see “After You Install” in the PowerCenter Configuration Guide.
7.4 Install languages (Optional). If required, install additional languages on Windows for use with the
PowerCenter Client.
