What is the disease?
It is characterized as a compulsery bond to things, experiences,
phenomena and people. The unnormal has become the normal in a per-
sons life.
The brain is rebuilt from whats normal.

Amygdala is a part of our

reward system.

What is Sugar?
White sugar (called sucrose) consists of the sugar groups fructose and
glucose. Sucrose is a source of energy and has no vitamin, fiber or
mineral values. This directly influences our reward system in our brain
by raising the synapse signal substances in the brain and giving a direct
“kick” in the form of joy, euphoria and energy. This is a very bad ener-
gy source because it is consumed extremely fast.

Note that all above applies to other substances as well as sugar. The
biological, chemical and mental changes in the person affected are the
same in most ways for alcohol, cocaine, amphetamine and even hero-
ine as they are for the seemingly harmless sugar.

We usually don’t equal sugar to for example amphetamine but the sim-
ilarities are there. Many users of alcohol in particular also exhibits an
abusive use of sugar and fa(s)t foods.

An abusive use of sugars displays the same symptoms as other sub-

stance abuses and the problems behind the abuse are the same. That’s
why we should see sugar abuse just as a serious symptom as alcohol or
substance abuse.
Costs for alcohol and addiction in the
European Union

Addiction problems are an important and

difficult area, one
that deals with em-
ployees´ lives and
health, about the
safety of the work-
places and the
quality of work performed.

The direct social costs related to alcohol

and addiction in the European Union
amounts to 155,8 billion euro of which
most of these are found outside the health
and medical care system (82,9 billion
euro).

In Sweden there are about:

55 000 active drug addicts.

780 000 with alcohol abuse, of which 330 000 alcohol addicted.

55 000 medicine addicted.

If everyone has 5 relatives (parents, children, partners, siblings),
there will be more than 4 million relatives affected by addiction!
Motivation for Change
If a person don´t need to take the responsibility for the negative
consequenses for his/her addiction, they will not find any reason to change.

They can eat the cake and still have it left.

A person changes only if they see a reason for it.

It´s therefore important that the person himself takes the natural consequen-
ses of the abuse. You as a relative should not take care of this.

The twelve steps simplified

1. I have a problem that I can´t solve myself.

2. There is a solution outside myself.

3. I am prepared to receive help without reservation.

4. I look at myself and my behaviours.

5. I tell someone about myself and my behaviours.

6. I am prepared to put down my defences.

7. I ask for help to live without these defences.

8. I review how my behaviours have hurt others and prepare me to ask for forgiveness.

9. I ask for forgiveness and make good as much as I can.

10. I continue to review myself and my behaviours on a daily basis.

11. Through prayer and meditation, I seek guidance by my ”higher power”.

12. I use the program on my other problems and willingly share with others how I did.
