LESSON: Prepositions of place
LESSON AIMS:
1. To revise vocabulary related to toys.
2. To introduce and practise the prepositions of place (in, under, on, behind, next to).
3. To develop speaking skills.
4. To recognize words through pictures.

Anticipated problems:
• mixed language levels
• misreading some words
Possible solutions: the teacher must involve all students in the lesson no matter of their
language differences and correct them every time they make mistakes.

Activity 1
Warm up
Clap your hands
Procedure:
The T greets the students and explains them that they will play a game. They have to listen
carefully the words said by the T. Everytime they hear a word they know they have to clap their
hands.

Timing: 5 minutes

Activity 2

Presentation

Procedure:

a) T asks students what toys they have at home. After listening their answers, the T
shows students pictures with a teddy bear, doll, car, plane and a balloon and asks the
students to recognize them. The T pronounces each toy and asks students to repeat
after her. After they repeat each word, the T takes the teddy bear and puts it on a box
and asks students to answer where the teddy bear is. The students answer that the
teddy bear is on the box. The T repeats the action for each preposition: in, under,
behind, next to.
b) The T draws on the blackboard a cube and on each side of it, she writes a preposition
and asks students to draw the cube in their notebooks. The T explains to students each
word by making a little game with her hands and asks students to repeat after her. After
this the T takes the doll and puts it on, in, under, behind, next to the box and asks
students to say where it is.

Activity 3

Pairwork
Procedure:
The T groups the students in pairs. The T shows them two little boxes and explains
to them that in one box they have some flashcards with the toys mentioned above
and in the other box they have instructions where they have to put the toy.One
student chooses the flashcard with the toy and his/her partner chooses one ticket
with the instructions. The last one has to read the instructions to his/ her partner,
who puts the toy in the place mentioned. If the one with the toy doesn’t understand
the intructions, his/ her partner may help him/her.

Activity 4
Production
Procedure:

a) The T gives students a worksheet and explains the task from exercise 1. The
students have to complete the sentences with the correct word( in, on, under,
behind, next to) according to the pictures from the worksheet.
b) The T explains students the task from exercise 2 from the same worksheet. The
students have to look at the pictures given and answers the question(where is
the teddy bear?) by making sentences.

Activity 5
Feedback
Procedure:
The T explains to students that she will put on the blackboard some pictures, each of
them being numbered. The students have to pay attention to what T says( eg. The
teddy bear is behind the train) and guess the picture by saying the number of it. The
student who guesses more, comes in front of the class and repeats the action.

Activity 6
Homework
Procedure:
The T explains students the task from exercise 3 from the worksheet. The students
have to read the text given and draw a picture according to the description.
