Motivate Students with Audio and Video

Descriptor of Session:
Explore free user-friendly tools that integrate with Office 365 to record your
own video or audio files. Learn how to customize online content to maximize
instruction and save preparation time. This is great for blended and
personalize learning, providing feedback, and increasing student motivation.

Objectives:
• TLW evaluate a variety of instructional audio and video resources.
• TLW brainstorms ways to use the resources highlighted in the classroom.
• TLW list ways students can use these tools to share their learning.

Success Criteria:
• The participant can record audio and video in PowerPoint, One Note or
One Note Class Notebook
• The participant can record audio using Recording tab in PowerPoint
• The participant can access and use the Immersive Reader feature in
Word Online, installed Word, or One Note.
• The participants can list ways students could use these resources to
share their learning.

Bell Work:
• Download the OneDrive, OneNote, and SeeSaw Class apps on your
smart phone.
• Open the Microsoft TEAM 2018-19 Audio-Video PD that you have joined.

Task 1: Use Immersive Reader to read an article


• From TEAMS participants will open the article in the Assignments
section.
• Participants will open the article in Word Online or installed Word.
• Select View, the Read Mode in the upper right corner.
• Select View > Read Aloud, and click the play button in the upper right
corner.
• Use Immersive Reader to read the article
*Participants should take a moment to read the article
• Participants will move to the next activity to explain how they will use
audio recording.

Task 2: Recording Audio using FlipGrid


• Participants will list examples of how they used audio recording in the
classroom. Does this give you ideas for the classroom?
• Watch the instructor demonstrate how to use FlipGrid
• Participants will use FlipGrid to share their reflection from the article
Discuss ideas for students using FlipGrid to demonstrate understanding of a
concept.

Task 3: Power Point Recording Tab

• Participants will open installed Power Point and create three slides
Slide 1-Title the first slide Prepositional Phrases
o Use the Record Slide Show feature in the Recording Tab to
introduce the lesson on the first slide (use web cam if possible)
• Save the PPT
• Slide 2-Explain Prepositional Phrases by opening the One Note with the
handout and taking a screenshot. Use the inking options
• SAVE THE PPT
• Download as MP4
• Post in platform
Where will you save? Options- Edlio webpage, One Drive shared link, One
Note, Teams, FlipGrid etc.

Task 3: Providing Audio and Video Feedback on Student Work in OneNote

Read Aloud Test


• Create a page in your student section Task 3. Find sample ACT tests in
Content Library ACT Resources section of the notebook.
• Copy one of the pages and paste in your personal Task 3 section.
• Create a recording for 3 questions on the test.

Immersive Reader
• Open the Read Aloud ACT test page again in the Content Library.
Copy into your personal notebook section Task 3 and use the Immersive
Reader in the Learning Tools add on (NOTE: You will have to download
this from the internet for the installed version of OneNote). Notice the
option for text spacing and color contrast.

Audio Recording of Teacher Feedback on Student Work


• Create a page in your student notebook Task 3 section. Practice using
the inking feature to give feedback while recording.

Audio Recording Student Fluency


• Model finding an article from Read Works and “printing” to One Note.

practice and record yourself reading the passage.

• View an example of a teacher One Take Video

by two digit numbers.
• Turn-In Example:
o Using your share option on your iPhone or iPad send to One Note-
2018-19 Audio-Video PD notebook.

TEAMS assignment
o Use See Saw or FlipGrid app to turn in video to See Saw

• Select a Khan Academy video you would use with your students
• Copy the URL
• Paste it in the View Pure Site
• Notice the difference
