Process A.1 Mathematical process standards. The student uses mathematical processes to acquire
and demonstrate mathematical understanding. The student is expected to:
(C) Select tools, including real objects, manipulative, paper and pencil, and
technology as appropriate, and techniques, including mental math, estimation,
and number sense as appropriate, to solve problems;
Language (1) Cross-curricular second language acquisition/learning strategies. The ELL uses
language learning strategies to develop an awareness of his or her own learning
processes in all content areas. In order for the ELL to meet grade-level learning
expectations across the foundation and enrichment curriculum, all instructions delivered
in English must be linguistically accommodated (communicated, sequenced, and
scaffolded) commensurate with the student's level of English language proficiency. The
student is expected to:
(C) use strategic learning techniques such as concept mapping, drawing,
memorizing, comparing, contrasting, and reviewing to acquire basic and grade
level vocabulary;
(F) use accessible language and learn new and essential language in the process;
Objectives
Content: I can identify domain and range by applying definition of function
Content: I can analyze domain and range of a linear function by using graph
Language: I can describe and explain domain and range of a linear function by using mathematical
symbols, key and technical vocabulary
Lesson Plan (Embed all activities and provide a description of what you will do in each section)
PLC Lesson Plan Template
Engage Activity: Estimate time: 10 minutes
Students will match their names to their relative months of birth on the board. The board
will be divided into two sides. The right side will be the month list from 1 to 12. Each
student will come to the board and write their name on the left side and then draw an
arrow from their names to their birth months.
In this part, teacher will ask students what they notice about the relationship between the
input and the output. Students will find the domain of the inputs and the range of the
outputs from the activity.
Explore Activity (Estimate time: 15 minutes) is planned to help students see domain and range
more clearly by let them draw along x and y axis using different colors.
Step 2: Along the y-axis, students will draw the interval of y (using red color) for each
line on the graphs.
Step 3: within the interval of x, students determine if all the values of x will have a value
of y that corresponding to it.
Closure Students will restate the objectives and discuss if they think they meet those goals.
Last minute questions or confusions are going to be answered.
Note:
Domain: x-values, left to right on the graph, first number in a coordinate point, always ordered
from least to greatest.
Range: y-values, up and down on the graph, second number in a coordinate point, also ordered
from least to greatest.
