Attention to Diversity

Attention to diversity tries to bear in mind the specific characteristics of each student,
by taken into account their interests, learning rhythms, attitudes. It is an essential
principle of teaching to provide an educational response appropriate to this reality. This
principle guarantees equity, fosters flexibility and respect for the diversity in all its
range.
Students with specific educational support needs are those who need, at a certain
point in their education or permanently, special support and specific educational
attention as a result of disabilities or severe behavioural problems. Following the
Educational legislation Order EDU/849/2010 and Order ECD/563/2016 currently in
force, these students are to be educated alongside their peers in mainstream schools.
Only when their needs cannot be reasonably met in mainstream schools they do attend
special education schools or classes.
