Evaluation
This is a very important component of any lesson. This should mirror your objectives.
Each objective should be included in the evaluative component of your lesson. Make sure
your assessment is authentic and related to the work. Good assessments include room for
the student to evaluate themselves either through a verbal or written reflection. You can
include behavior as part of a daily grade of some sort, but this should not be where most
of your evaluation is focused.

Things to keep in mind when writing this section:

Create a plan to carry out your lesson session by session
1) Include a description of how each session will be taught.
2) Include an introduction to the lesson and the contemporary artist(s)
3) Make sure you explain to students why you are teaching this lesson and what they will
learn and make. Explain how they will achieve the goals and objectives you have
outlined.
4) Show lots of varied examples
5) Include any demonstrations you intend to give, any practice exercises, safety talks,
critiques, tests, written assignments, homework, or class discussions.
6) On days when students are doing studio work create daily goals for students to
achieve.
7) Make sure you have some sort of final assessment and closure for the students where
they can re-cap the process and reflect on what they have learned
*You will write this section well enough so that a substitute teacher could easily follow
your plans for each session. I expect this section to be fairly detailed and well thought
out. When you are teaching this level of planning will be helpful. After you have gained
some experience in the classroom (3-4 years) such detail may not be necessary.
Remember it is better to plan to much than to not plan enough.

understanding, questions), Guided Practice, Closure, and Independent Practice. While all
of these elements do not appear in every lesson plan they will appear in every unit of
instruction.

Contemporary Artist(s) + three images (10pts)

In this section please write (not copy) a one page bio on the contemporary artist you plan
to present.
Include the following information:
Birth date (year), nationality, museums that show or have shown the works of this artist
or permanent collections to which the artist belongs
Medium in which this artist works
Subject matter
Why you chose to use this artist in this lesson. What processes, mediums,
social/political/personal theme or ideas does this artist use that your students will also
experience to some extent?
A list of images that you have included in your Power Point presentation for this lesson
When listing the images for the lesson list the sources, title, year, medium, and if possible
size
* Make sure you get up to date information about your artist. If you use the internet make
sure you list the sites that you visited. If you artist does not have work in the collection of
a major museum or is not represented by a well-known gallery or has not been reviewed
by one of the following publications, Art in America, Art News, Art Forum, Ceramics
Monthly, The New York Times, The Guardian, The Atlanta Constitution, The LA Times,
The Chicago Tributes, The Washington Post, Art Papers, or has not been included in any
contemporary art history books or permanent collections then they are not famous enough
for you or your students to find a lot of good information. (Remember, anyone with
access to technology can create a website and call themselves an artist. ) The internet is a
good place to start your search, but eventually you will want to go to the art library.
Make sure your images are good reproductions and that you give credit to your sources of
information.
