Aim
To compare the heartrate during different tasks, during a competition
Hypothesis
If competition is included in an activity then the heartrates of the test subjects will increase
Variables
Independent- gender and skill level in activities
Materials
Fitbit (to check heartrate more efficiently)
Timer
Method
1. Test the heartrate of everyone before the experiment starts
2. Make test subjects plank for as longest as they can and when finished measure heartrate
3. Make test subjects watch a cringe challenge video and test when failed or when finished
video
4. Make test subjects play a battle royale game, for example pub g, fortnite, e.t.c and test at
death or win
5. Make test subjects watch a try not to laugh challenge and test when failed or end of video
Results
No Laugh Challenge
Br Game F2
Activities

M1
Longest Plank
Normal heartrate
Discussion
The results of the experiment didn’t support the hypothesis as originally thought. The heartrate
started showing promise in the first activity, where the female test subjects heartrate increased,
female 2 even doubled their heartrate. Although the first activity supported the hypothesis, the rest
of the experiments started refuting it. All of the test subjects kept a range of 50-80 through the rest
of the experiment. A possible reason why the test subjects started having a lower as they progressed
throughout the experiment is because they exercised a bit before the test began. Due to that their
heartrates may have risen, and the first activity was a physical activity increasing their heartrates.
The rest of the experiments were needed for the test subject to sit down, allowing time for the heart
to slow down and rest. The experiment should have included an additional 4 different people
without the mention of competition to compare the 2 results, to see if competition would really
effect heartrates. Although there wasn’t enough given time to conduct the experiment again, when
the experiment is conducted again then that can be attempted.
Conclusion
To summaries, the aim of the experiment was to compare the effect of competition between males
ad females. The hypothesis stated that heartrate will rise once competition is incorporated in
activities. The independent variables were the gender and skill levels in the activities, the dependent
variables were the different heartrates and the controlled variable were the activities each person
was given and the age. Overall the experiment refuted the hypothesis because of a possible error
during the experiment. Physical exercise seemed to be the only thing in the experiment that made
the heartrate rise.
